Garage Opener
I finally got the '06 Boxster I was talking about in this thread. Unfortunately, it didn't come with the owners manual. It looks like there are garage / gate opening buttons by the top release, but I'm not sure how to get them working. I tried going through the steps that worked on my 5 Series BMW (put garage opener in learn mode and then press and hold one of the buttons in the car). No luck. Maybe a code is already in there and I have to get the system to "forget" that one so it can learn a new one? How do I make it forget and then program it for the new one?

Turn the car on and hold down both the 1 and 3 buttons (the outer two) for 20-30 seconds. Once the LED starts blinking fast, the codes are clear and you can reprogram the buttons for your remote. Press the button you want to program for a few seconds until the LED steadily flashes, then hit the key on the remote you want to copy. When the fog lights flash, the car has learned the code. The manual says you have to hold your remote near the front bumper while the car learns the code, but you don't always need to do that.

I've experience this and the result was that there were too many remotes assigned to the garage door opener. Try reseting the codes on the garage door opener and assigning the remotes and or cars again. I found this to work for me. YMMV.

Try MSH's idea of training the garage door opener to the car. Sometimes you need to sync up both of them. Usually there's a button somewhere on the garage door opener housing you can press and then hit the button on in the car to pair them up.

For this garage door, there are 3 remotes programmed, handheld remotes in my wife's Z3 and Range Rover (stays parked in the driveway), and my 525xi that I just turned in. I'll see if I can get the opener to forget all codes tonight and try resyncing the handhelds and the Boxster.

Make sure you're using a big remote to train the homelink and that it has fresh batteries. If the remote is one of the tiny, slimline ones or if it's a weak battery then homelink will claim to work but will not actually learn the code.

We got it to work this evening. We repeated the same steps we had done before, put the opener in learn mode and press and hold one of the buttons in the Boxster. This time, it worked. Strange.
