Default Chick car?

Is the Cayman (or Cayman S for that matter) a chick car now? Every single one I see lately is being driven by a woman.

I don't see it as that. I can understand why Boxster's get that rap, as I see a lot more women or the "casual" driver behind the wheel. But, they're both fabulous cars. I had a chance to drive a Cayman S (w/Tip) when I had the dealer install new tires. The car is so well balanced it almost drives itself.

I didn't think women would be snatching them up like this at all. I thought the car looked very masculine. Who knew?

The car is SEXY, and women buy what 'looks' good to them more often then men. And they're not stupid either, similar performance and exhilerating sound and driving make this car a winner!

Chicks often like to have to latest newest thing.

Or your sightings could a statistical fluke of the 10,000 variables in traffic patterns. Such as yesterday when I saw 3 green Saturn Ions in 5 minutes.

Or maybe you just notice chicks more?

If I had to guess I would expect that 95% of CS owners are men. Not many women are going to spend that much money for a car that isn't a vert and doesn't at least have a sunroof. The CS is aimed at the hard core performance market, and there aren't that many women in that market. Maybe the women you saw are driving their husband's or boy friend's car.

I can speak from personal experience. I regularly show cars to my wife and ask her what she thinks. Of all the Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Aston Martins, BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus, Audis, and other high-end cars, the only one that she really fell for was the Cayman. She likes the curves of the Cayman rear. Now she's bugging me to get her one, though I keep telling her we're waiting until Porsche gives the Cayman the power that it deserves.

Save for the that fact that when I look at the car from the back, I get a weird sensation that Vida Guerra* is in front of me bent over to pick something up, no, I don't see my CS as a chick car.:-)

Great point. My wife LOVES the CaymanS and really wants one but she is NOT giving up her 996CAB for one!

Instead of saying it a 'chic car' I would like to say that the Cayman is a car for everyone, not just limited to men.

PCNA just emailed me the Cayman (non-S) $589 Lease promote with a Red Cayman in the header. This will definitely attacts a new group of Porsche buyers, both women and men.

PCNA Cayman $589 offer

With best regards,

According to Automotive News over 85% of Boxsters are purchased by men. If memory serves, the 911 percentage is around 89% men.

The "girl car" myth is perpetuated by owners of more powerful cars that have been passed by Boxsters at the track...

Some time ago I read in a magazine that Porsches have so much testosterone that it's surprising that hair isn't growing out of Porsche hoods. Actually I'm not too concerned about how a car is perceived, but I am concerned about whether or not the car is fun to drive. An example is the Miata which is a ball to drive, even on the streets. Even though its almost universally looked at as a chick car, I would have bought one some time ago if it weren't for my concern about well the Miata protects its occupants in a crash. Porsches on the other hand do a great job in that category.

That's funny, I thought most of these cars were bought by gay men. That's why Porsche named it for them.....
