Default Rear Shudder..on acceleration

Coming off hard from a stoplight with or without PSM off, there is a violent shuddering coming from the rear. Is this wheel hop or is stability control still being triggered to prevent wheel spin?

my '05 Box S is manual if that makes a difference....

are you dropping the clutch at high rpms?
if so, then it's normal.. if you get a rolling start then floor it, then it doesn't sound right

if it's the former, then better start saving for a new clutch!

Sounds like wheel hop, IIRC we don't have traction control....

I think the 987s has a newer generation of ABD (auto brake differential) monitoring that will merely keep the wheels spinning at the same rate by applying the brakes...very different from say BMW where the power is dramatically cut.

In any case, launching the car with high rpms will cause axle tramp or wheel hop on any car with an independent suspension. It's not a drag racer...

I agree high rpm launch causes the rear to shudder. No Problem.

forgot about the independent rear suspension.....which ads a whole new dynamic. Anyways no I'm not drag racing anyone was just trying things out....and not really that high of an rpm 4-5 grand.

Check your motor mounts. My 98' Boxster did the same thing, and it turned out it was the motor mount cracked. If you know what to look for you can see the engine "torquing" twisting waaay more than it should. If you cant get the motor to twist-up while staying still, get someone who knows how. Not too bad of a replacement for skilled mechanic.
I just thought I wasn't loading the clutch all the way or wheel hop. The shuttering I heard was the engine moving around. Hope it's not it on yours. Good luck.

I have the same "shudder" in my recently purchased 01. I have a tip and thought it was something in the trans or motor mounts. The trans acts fine in all gears except first. What do you guys think, motor mounts?
