I haven't found anything in 265/40/18; just 265/35/18. In January someone at Tire Rack advised me to wait a few months for the correct size to come out, but tire makers have had over a year now to produce the 40 aspect ratio, but haven't. On the other hand, some people have been using the 265/35/18 rear tire and I've never read a report that the 35 tire did not work, although it approaches the 5% smaller diameter limit some say could activate PSM. The other concern is that the .5" lower rear ride height could affect aerodynamics over the car. I'd certainly feel better about using the 40 AR tire, but may have to order the 35.

Yeah, those were the sizes I used last year with the Dunlop SSR's. To be honest, the car looked kinda goofy with the smaller rears. I did have some PSM intrusion on some corners with that set-up, but I was chalking that more to my lack of seat time on the 987S. Maybe I'll just keep using up the street tires for now.

Not in 18", but there are MPSCs in 19s.

Chris: The same problem exists with the 19" Cup sizes. The 19" wheels come with 265/35/19 rears, but the Cup size is 265/30/19; thus still 1" less in diameter.

I guess we just have to keep checking. The Cayman comes with the same tire sizes, so it's just a matter of time. Hope it's not too long. It took 3 years after I had my 911 for Michelin. Pirelli and Yoko to come up with the C4S/turbo stock sizes in DOT R-compounds.

Had extensive tracktime at DE all last season using the track wheels and tires from my 986S on my 987S. Used MPSC 18/265/35 on the rear and had NO problems with PSM or PASM. The car handled extremely well without ABS or PSM kicking in under agressive track driving at Watkins Glen and Limerock(PSM on and Sport Setting on). The PSM did save me once on a wet track at Limerock, did what it was supposed to do. The rear tire is noticeably shorter (.5 inch) when side by side, but it did not seem to change the handling. The 987S was clearly better on the track with the same tires.

Recently wrote to Michelin, and they said do not have plans to offer MPSC in 18/265/40 any time soon.

Thanks for your report. That's good news. It's also consistent with the "no problem" comments from my dealer (a long time Porsche owner/driver).

When the other brands start coming out with R-compounds for the 987 and the Cayman, I'm sure Michelin won't want to be left behind.

The 285/30 puts down more rubber but is still 1" shorter than stock 265/40. Better acceleration and more stick, but will still look kinda goofy with the nose up. I think it may be the best compromise, though.
