Today whent and took a look at the Cayman, no wonder they call it a Cayman,'cause it is smaller than a Cocodrile. I did like it a lot in photos, I whent to with the idea to buy one, but I did not like it at all, looks like a toy car. Well different strokes for diff. folks I guess!, cheers,Sonny.
Just personal pref I guess. I happen to love the compact and purposeful look of the Cayman......to me it looks much fresher than the 997. It's actually a little longer and taller than the Boxster is, any bigger and it would just add more weight. I'll take it just the way it is.
The Cayman is a surprisingly small car with a low roofline. The roofline is significantly lower than that of a Carrera. It's very aggressive--which for most folks will be a good thing. As a daily driver, though, a tall person might have some concerns.
The Cayman is a tightly focused, purposeful sports car--not a GT cruiser.
I agree. The first time I sat in one and looked over the fender flares I felt like Steve McQueen in Le Mans. I never had that feeling sitting in a 996 or 997.
I got this from the Dec edition of GT Purely Porsche.
The Caymans overall height is 1305mm tall between the 997S 1300mm and 997 1310mm.
The Cayman is slightly narrower when measured from the leading edge of the wheel but surprisingly equal width when measured from the outside of the mirrors.
The Cayman actually has a longer wheel base than the 997 at 2415mm vs. 2350mm for the 997. The Cayman however is 86mm shorter than the 997 in overall length.
As a daily driver, though, a tall person might have some concerns.
I don't think the Cayman's head room, of which there is surprisingly much, would be a problem for other than NBA sized people, but leg room is significantly less than in a 997. I''d guess anyone over about 6'2" would need to be proportioned just right to fit comfortably.
6'1" with long torso and it fit me like a glove with the seat as far back as it could go; i do like to sit little farther back than most people and with a sharper rake in the seatback.

You must be joking... you've seen Boxsters on every street corner for the past 8 years, and you're surprised that the Cayman is a small car? It's a Boxster with a roof!!! It's a BOXSTER... with a ROOF!!!

Smaller than a "Cocodrile" huh? I think it's bigger than an "Alley-gater", but I may be mistaken.
