Default 08 Boxster Alternator

Did an Alternator test by attaching multimeter to battery w/ running engine. Read 12 volts then fell to 10.5. Battery not holding a charge as well. I assume both batt and alternator are toast. Thoughts ? V

It's a relatively known problem with the alternator, that one or more diodes (voltage Reg) go bad. Unless your battery is more than 3 years old, I wouldn't rule it out yet.
Unless you are picky, you don't need the OEM Porsche alternator either. I have a sticking pinion gear on mine that gives the high-pitch whine at times when disengaging. I've looked into removing it. It's not a real easy task to remove it, but nothing I couldn't do in an afternoon.

Well ....here's the rub..I want to do a compression test to see if the engine is worth dumping money into. But the batt dosen't hold a charge and I don't want to spend $ on both a batt and alternator. I guess I'll get the Batt load tested and just start from there.
Yes the battery is probably more than 3 yrs old. V
