Thanks. Looks like AL to me. Where does the AL come from, typically?

Bore score on 987.1’s isn’t an issue.

Only on the base model 2.7L engine, not the S model. The S model engines in the Boxster/Cayman are showing a trend of scoring cases just the like the 911 variants in the M9X family.

And for the record, it doesn't mean you'll never see bore scoring on a 2.7L, it just means that they have shown to be less susceptible to cylinder bore scoring and the main reason is the piston composition.

I agree that the piston composition gets a lot of credit on forums for the reason that the 2.7 has this issue so rarely, but there's another aspect that makes a lot of sense when I was told by a flat6 builder. He stated that the motor is basically square at that size (2.7) and so the geometry on the piston stroke is different enough along with the piston being understressed relative to the bigger motor(s). Or in layman's terms, the piston in the 2.7 has a less stressful life. In fact being basically a "square" motor, it's the dream life for a piston. Beautiful math, if you will.

What Flat6 builder are you referring to? Flat 6 Innovations?
