Default Cayman with CEL (C0731)

Hi, I was driving my 2006 Cayman S down the highway a few weeks back and the CEL light came on. I hooked up my OBDII reader and it showed C0731 which I guess is a Porsche specific code.

I've searched the web high an low for a list of CEL codes, and have come across several lists for Pxxxx but I can't find any which list Cxxxx codes. (I understand Pxxxx codes are engine/drive-train related while Cxxxx codes are "chassis" related which includes steering/brakes/suspension)

Has anyone come across the C0731 code? Is there a list of Cxxxx codes for the 987 out there?

Any help/hint is appreciated!

Strange that a CheckEngineLight would be triggered by a chassis code?

Not saying it is impossible, of course, but ABS, psm, etc have their own dash alerts, independent of a CEL.

@velandia - what tool were you using to read this code? If it's an OBD-II code reader, it cannot read module-specific diagnostics/error codes. You need a tool made for Porsche diagnostics. There are P codes and U codes in the factory manual - nothing about "C" codes that I could find.

Codes that begin with "C0" are generic, non-manufacturer-specific codes related to the chassis, but as far as I can tell, there is no C0731 code. Like Don, I suspect you need a more Porsche-specific OBD II reader.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm using a Foxwell NT630+ ABS OBDII reader. I'll look through the link posted by TMc993 ...I think the OBD unit I'm using is "update-able" so I'll check whether there is a Porsche specific module available through Foxwell.

Update:

I finally got around to updating my OBDII reader with Porsche specific info. I have a Foxwell NT630 plus reader. After the update, it read the code as C152 "Communication PSM control unit (drive)" I'm not sure why it came on, but given that it was a communication related code, I figured I'd clear it and see if it was a consistent failure. After clearing it, I went on a 15min drive and the CEL stayed off. I'll monitor it over the next few weeks see if it comes back.

Again, thanks for the help.
