M97 engine tuner in the SF Bay Area
I am thinking about getting an used or rebuilt 997.1 3.8 engine as a replacement for my 08 Cayman S blown engine. Any recommendation of M97 ECU tuner in the SF Bay Area? The local shop will handle the R&R but they don't do tuning. I prefer custom tuning instead of Softronic.

Just as a note all the custom tuning to a CaymanS file isn't going to produce what a proper engine conversion file will..... generally they will get about 270-285 on a Mustang compared to about 330 with a proper conversion file and running 93 for the 3.8S engine. The same applies to 986,987.2 and the 981 Cayman, Boxster series conversions also.
You can always call and I can explain.
Good luck in your conversion as they are fun .
Best,
Scott

Scott,
I currently have Softronic tune on my Cayman. if I drop a 3.8 in my Cayman, can I get an updated file? What if I rebuild the current 3.4 with a larger bore? Will it be a different file than the standard 3.8 file? I can call you on Monday.

Yes you can get either file as a current customer as an upgrade! Talk to you then.

Scott,
Thanks so much for explaining the tune and difference between 3.4, 3.6 and 3.8 M97 setup over the phone. Very helpful. Looking forward to getting the updated file once the build is done.

Scott, I have another question regarding your tune. I plan to upgrade my PASM suspension with Ohlins R&T coilovers. When I get the updated tune file from you, can I ask you to code out the PASM error code?

No that has its own CU so what you do is with a Porsche tester go to the "Gateway" and then select "Coding" then "Required Control Unit Lists" and select PASM and "Not Installed".
Then also under the Gateway select "Nominal and Actual Configuration" then select "PASM" and remove the CU and it will then complete the uninstall and also go from a + to a -. So now both will show it as a - as not present or installed in this section when refreshed.

Scott

Hi Scott,
I just left you a voicemail. The 4.0l is installed. I plan to pick up the car next week. When I bought this car from the previous owner, I don't recall seeing the stock ECU file. I understand that the stock file is uploaded to your server. When I get the updated 4.0 flash file from you, I'd like to get the stock file also so I can smog the car using the stock file.
Thanks
Litko

The upgrade pricing or changes applies to direct purchase customers as you would also have the cable and prior files etc. Give me a shout tomorrow. 9-5 EST

Hi Scott, have you changed the Cayman 3.8S engine swap conversion files - any updates since 2014? My conversion seems to be running very rich. Folks behind me can smell the fuel as I'm driving.

No and they are made for emissions specs and will pass.... None of the files are set rich .
Now if you are running catless or have aftermarket cats that have failed then you would get a rich smell as the cats are not scrubbing the HC. Or you may have another issue however if it was actually running to rich it would have set a CEL as the fuel adjustment parameters would be exceeded to try and lean it by the lambda settings. This applies to a stock car also in that if it has an intake leak it would get the cel as it cant compensate enough fuel to add and the opposite for a rich running car as mentioned
Best,
Scott
