987's for sale in the wild..
#61
I ran some price trends on cargurus; since february 1 the prices for 986s have gone up around 25%; for 987s it did similar. But the 981s went down around 3%.
Is this just some dealers who overpriced their 981s, skewing the numbers? Or is there just a run on the older boxsters?

981 Cayman S and GTS models have gotten insane maybe because they are so rare now. The GT4s are starting to get priced lower so overall numbers don't show a huge impact.

2011 Spyder just showed up on BAT - black on black https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...ter-spyder-40/ Reasonably low miles. Open for bidding (no bids yet.)

Nice Black Edition with a manual on BAT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2012-porsche-cayman/
I love the looks of these cars, and this one with the H&R lowering springs is a nice example. Stock they look a bit weird with the 19" Spyder wheels and the stock massive fender gap. I would have personally gone with R springs but that's splitting hairs.

The first line in the first posting in this thread says ""This sticky thread is mostly for people to post 987's and 981's they've stumbled across when browsing the web... ones that aren't listed in our marketplace."
Apparently some people have a problem understanding this - especially people who aren't paid members and find they can't post their cars for sale in the marketplace.
So - I'm modifying the message:
This sticky thread is ONLY for people to post 987's and 981's they've stumbled across when browsing the web... this does not include cars for sale by members or users of Rennlist. Those cars should be posted in the Marketplace - which requires you to be a paid member to post. Posts that do not conform to this rule will be summarily removed.

Quick market observation re 987.2 and 981 base boxster models, which I have been watching closely for the last few weeks/month: There are very few out there, prices are strong, and good cars sell fast.
Example: A local (Austin) 987.2 with a decent spec (silver/black, 47k miles, manual transmission, 18" wheels, halogen lights) popped up on Autotrader late last week for $28,500 and I scheduled a test drive for Monday morning, but it sold over the weekend - before they posted photos.
On Monday, I stumbled upon a base 2010 Boxster WP0CA2A89AU710275 (manual, 35k miles, dark blue/tan interior with blue deviating carpet, HID lights, 18" wheels) that was listed on Craigslist with a misspelled title ("Boxter" - no"s"; maybe apropos of its trim level) so it was sort of off the radar. I purchased it today after Carfax and a PPI gave it a clean bill of health (only 1 range 1 over-rev). Paid about $25k after cost of shipping.
Where to I looked: I found that Autotrader seemed to have the best overall selection, but not many great deals. Rennlist, PCA Mart, and Carvana seem to have occasional good deals on 987s and 981s, but they go fast. AutoTempest is also a nice search aggregator that led me to the car I bought. Ebay, Bring a trailer, carsandbids, Craigslist, CarGurus, and pcarmarket are hit and miss, but are worth a look.
Lessons learned: Be patient, be vigilant, and act quickly when the right car comes along. Happy hunting!

Here's one that might be a good deal if in good condition (also with a misspelled title):
2009 Boxster S, manual transmission, 56,000 miles, $28,000.

2009 Base 987.2 6 speed
100k miles so may go for a very reasonable price......imho these are good for many more miles
The fact that it has a few blemishes and a claimed new clutch in 2015 (need receipt) make it a great affordable DE car without worrying about the investment.
