Default 18" track wheel for my spyder: which one?

Well, since I'm now doomed to run R comp tires at any track event, I just can't see myself bringing the spyder to a track event until I give it the proper tires. Given the options out the currently, NT01s seem to be the best for me, but they only come in 18" size. I've decided to get some 18" wheels for the track. I've been looking around and forgestar seems to be a good option. They are relatively cheap, come in the correct sizes and any offset, and weigh less or the same as the stock 19" spyder rims. F14 weighs 19lb front, 22lb rear. CF5 weighs 20lb front, 23 rear. Which do you guys think would look better?

F14 on boxster

CF5 on spyder

My spyder the first day I brought it home. Anyone good with photoshop?

Plan is CF5 or C14 in gloss gunmetal. 18x9F, and 18x10/11 R. Any opinions on offset?

I like the one on the left, it's a nice match to the Spyder and will give it a nice aggressive appearance.

I use a set of 993 Turbo wheels. Cheap, super strong and RED so they look different... They fit perfectly with 285s at the rear and 245s at the front

MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE PCCB THOUGH

I got some gold forgestars like the one on the left(first post) for the track. I love them.

Nice! Do you have any pictures with them mounted on the car?

I also vote for the left one (or the top one... larger screen on home computer... I thought I already edited this, rennlist??)

I know this isn't what you asked, but how about OZ wheels? Relatively cheap, are light, and has sizes you're seeking. You can look on Tire Rack under 18" Boxster S wheels. Can be had for $1,600-1,800.

I think your main concern is what will fit over the PCCB's.

I went for cheap track wheels - OZ Alleggrita HLT's. 18# front, 20# rear. Four wheels for about what one replacement Porsche wheel would run. Just take the carbon fiber center caps out - when the wheels get hot, they fall out.

Looks are a secondary consideration, but they aren't bad:

Even in the rare instance when the car is stationary, they are OK.

Nothing wrong with OZ. I like the design of the forgestar better, and they're still a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the OZ.

Nice pics! Thanks for sharing, Bill. Yes, I am concerned about the PCCBs. Matt@campionishop says that the forgestars will fit over the PCCBs because of the concave design.

I had a set of the F14 on a E46 M3 a few years ago and they worked great for me. However a Buddy driving a Boxster at Road America earlier this month had the Forgestars and both front wheels broke where the spokes meet the hub. I'd recommend you look else where.....

Yikes. Any damage to the car as a result? There seem to be a decent amount of people who track with forgestars. How common is failure of a wheel in general? I'm not totally sold on needing a true forged wheel since our spyder wheels aren't even forged. Nonetheless, if something fails at the track it will cost me much more than a set of forged wheels...

Very UNcommon, i.e. very rare. I've seen a Cup car's wheel come off at VIR but the wheel was still perfectly intact (the bolts probably came loose).

Yikes, indeed!

May be worth a few-several hundred more to go with OZ... though one peek at Joe's house above tells me that his and my price points may be slightly different (and not in my favor)...

Between run sessions while checking pressures and tire wear he noticed the cracked spokes before it turned disastrous on the track. No previous damage, impacts or off track excursions. He was very lucky as it could have been terminal if they had failed at the end of one of the long straights or at the kink.
