Default Tracking Your Spyder

Rather than piggyback on someone else post probably better to start a fresh thread.

Hats off to those planning to track your Spyders. It is a mighty fun car to toss around and you are going to love it With that said let me share my experiences as food for thought.

1. 8/10ths and above it understeers. A LOT. You will find yourself understeering going into apexes and at trackout. For example-T2 at Laguna Seca is an exercise in frustration. You can fix it by installing a set of custom coilover$ OR calling Ira at Tarett and asking him for the custom rear sway he built for me last year. It's stiffer and adjustable. Start with bar at full loose or you will be in for a lot of oversteer excitement!

2. To get the camber you need you probably will need to buy Cup front/rear adjustable LCA's. Call Tarett.

3. Tracking with the stock tires is not so fun once you are driving at 7/10 th's or so and higher. You are going to chunk the tread blocks and destroy them. Pirelli PZero's are truly dreadful for tracking. MPSC's are awesome! As are Pirelli Trofeo's (if you can find them).

4. Taller/long torso folks may need to remove the seat bottom cushion to pass a broomstick test with helmet on. It is attached only with velcro.

5. Spherical ended toe-control arms with locking plates are a worthwhile investment if more serious about tracking (Tarett).

6. Rear monoballs (LCA) if even more serious.

7. The Schroth 6 pt harness fits perfectly if you have the carbon buckets and shoulder belts wrap around the OE roll bar. SUPER easy! Going to need the usual BK brackets though for the anti-sub belts.

Don't drop the outside rear wheel off exit berms and have fun!

Great idea for a thread!
Don't forget:

8) The brakes on a spyder are soft and have terrible feedback from the factory. To help with brake modulation and with heel/toe if you have a MT, upgrade your master cylinder. Use a GT3 master cylinder if you have PCCBs. I have heard those with standard brakes see an improvement using a PCCB master cylinder.

I installed SS brake lines before my last DE and the pedal is already feeling better. For my next DE, I plan to switch to pagids. I have the standard brakes on my spyder.

Once i am done with my brake mods and have a few DEs under my belt, I plan to tackle the suspension mods as mentioned above. Many more DE's later, perhaps dedicated track wheels\rubber.

Do you have a photo of this?

Great, thanks. I think my Father is looking for just a rollbar and not a full cage but this is interesting. Do you happen to have any other pics of it?

I saw that car at mid-Ohio. Fast indeed.

What wheels are those? Look like some type of BBS?

'ForgeLine' forged alloy wheels...one of his sponsors! He can put the standard factory Spyder 'Bimini top' right over his cage. At Laguna on this day (Global Tuner GP / Oct '10) he won his particular race. It started raining when his car was at the podium to receive his trophy. He just calmly open the rear, took the cover out and quickly put in in place to protect his interior. Piece of cake!
