Girodisc rotors vs. OEM - what am I missing?
Need to replace my 981s rotors soon. The Girodisc's seem to be popular for heavy track users, but I'm having trouble making any sense of them economically for a light track user. My car only see's track use a couple times a year.
Girodisc - last longer and lighter. Approximately $2,300 for a set of 4 with replacement rings coming in at about $1,500 for a set of 4
OEM - heavier and don't last as long. Approximately $600 for a set of 4.
I used Suncoast for pricing. So unless the Giro's last significantly longer and/or you are after a few pounds of unsprung weight savings for heavy track use, I just can't see the Giro's making any sense. What am I missing?

It's best to avoid cross-drilled rotors for track use since they'll crack before the rotors are worn for replacement.

I went with Zimmerman from FCPEuro - which has a lifetime warranty (including wear parts). $113ea for fronts, and was impressed with both initial quality and wear compared to OEM. I bought ATE rears there as well (not currently shown), but haven't used them ($115 for set). Less than $350 all in, and the next set only costs return shipping.

You're not missing anything. GD are good rotors, but expensive unless you track a whole lot. A side benefit, if you need it based on your driving, is that they'll dissipate heat better being larger and 2 piece, so you won't overheat the pads and such. OEM are fine for the vast majority of people as long as you have race pads.
They do crack quick, though. My OEM's are about toast after 6 days.

I view this the same as your prior thread about OEM vs race pads. Sure, the GD brakes cost more. A lot more. But, they 1) last forever, and 2) are very unlikely to give you any problems. Very few of us are able to get out there on the track as often as we would like. When I do get the chance, I want to make the most of it and win that DE and get that trophy. Cutting a session short because the brakes are fading, slowing down for a few laps mid-session to cool off (while those other guys are passing you and getting all those DE Cup points), or cracking a drilled rotor - not the best way to spend a track weekend.

Sebro makes slotted rotors for 981 now
Hello,
Want to let everyone know that Sebro has slotted front rotors for sale now in the USA. I have been emailing them with the ask for a while and happy to say they are finally here! At least for 981 S series cars, not sure on base models.

Ugh. I literally just stocked up on Sebro cross drilled as my track consumables. Definitely go for the slotted.
