Walter Rohrl mentioned in what appears to be a recent interview that he has a Boxster Spyder on order…. Being 2014, would this be a tip that a 2015 Spyder is in the works?

Is that a photoshop or aftermarket?
I looks good but the double humps don't blend in as well as on the 987. The 981 with the more modern lines needs harder angles up top. The stripe also looks too high. Hmmm
I'm sure Porsche will come up with another version of the Spyder or some type of sporty version of the 981, or maybe the GTS will fill the gap.....

GTS doesn't come with sport suspension (option X73) -- only PASM. A 200lbs lighter Spyder with sport suspension would be very different from a GTS. I hope they make one. If not, I'd prefer a non-GTS 981 with sport suspension to a GTS -- but that's me.

Maybe they'll allow a 'free' sport suspension option on the GTS.

"I've just ordered a Boxster Spyder with a manual shift - and I know that it's working, it's perfect, and it's up to me how I handle things". The last Boxster Spyder were built in July of 2011. His interview had to take place months, if not a year, before that final production date.
"We have 620hp now in the GT2 RS; I think that's enough!". He talks about the gt2 RS as 'now', a current production model! Not like a model which is now somewhat remote (as it would be had this interview occurred in January 2014). Remember that the the gt2 RS was introduced in 2010 as a MY2011.
So both of these statements by Walter on this interview point to a date much earlier than 2012, 2013 or early 2014! On the other hand, the only hint we have in the interview of a more recent date (post-March 2013 when the 991 was introduced at Geneva) is: '"Yes, during the press launch everybody was complaining and saying: 'Why?!' But I said, 'Be happy! Drive the car and you will see how much easier it is for you to go fast.' The shifting is something very impressive'. But it's hard to reconcile this late date with the previous two references to ordering a 997 Boxster Spyder and the 'now' gt2 RS!
And then there is the other thing to consider. Walter Rohrl is a trusted, reliable spokesperson for Porsche. He knows what a 997 Boxster Spyder is. He would not get it confuse with a 981 Boxster GTS. Walter would also NOT cavalierly leak the 'news' of a 981 Boxster Spyder to this no-name interviewer of Pistonheads! This would be 'breaking news' and get him an unwelcome headline at Porsche. Walter is too much of a professional to do such a thing! Bottom line - this is a dated interview that was just published by Pistonheads. Sorry, that is all.
Indeed, there will be a gts version of the 981 Boxster and Cayman. It will arrive as a MY2015 in the summer of calendar year 2014. There is no Spyder version of the 981 Boxster in the works (as of the present date). I personally don't think it will happen.

Eduardo, so the guys are outright lying, then? The date of the article is "Tuesday 14th January".
Rohrl was attending Autosport last week with Bilstein and we were lucky enough to grab an exclusive chat with him before he flew home. Here's the chat in full...

I'm not implying anything. Maybe they just made a mistake replacing "GTS" with a "Spyder". This hypothesis would allow for the timing (Jan 2014) and the remaining content of the chat to be correct.

Sorry, but I don't believe this so-called interview is current. It may have been published in Pistonheads recently, but the time of the actual interview is probably no later than the early part of 2011!

Granted, this "chat" would be a weird venue for announcing a new Spyder so that part is either an error, or the whole chat happened years ago (which, to me, amounts to outright misrepresentation/lying).
That said, I don't see why Porsche wouldn't produce a Spyder (lighter, stiffer, sharper) version for every Boxster generation. Equivalent to the GT3/RS for every 911 generation. If they do, it would probably come towards the end of the 981 series run in a few years.
Eduardo, let us know if you get to the bottom of this.
