Default It's here!

Picked up my 981S after work today. It was 51, so no top down. Have about 100 miles on it, scrupulously staying under 4000 RPM. Should have no problem logging another 300 miles over the weekend. I'm happy with the color - very subtle. Only thing I might have changed would be vents in leather, since the bright trim is a little glaring.
I have owned a '66 and '69 GTO, a '70 E type Jaguar, 4 manual 911s and several other manual transmission cars. This is, by far, the most buttery smooth manual gearbox I have ever touched. So nice.
The electronics seemed like a spaceship compared to my wife's '08 A6.
This car will be my nice weather DD (winter Tundra) and I am very much looking forward to getting to know it. Rear visibility sucks, but the side mirrors are very good.

Had the glare issue because of my grey interior. Polarized Ray Bans- problem solved.

Congrats!

I agree, the shifter on the 981 is silky smooth. It is the one thing that I don't love about the 987

We need some more pictures!

Enjoy in good health.

Thanks! Been busy driving. Have had it 21 hours and 280 miles so far. I'll get another 100 or so tomorrow. For now, have to mow. Came home from the gas station with the top down. Wind noise much improved over my '88Turbo Cab.
Yeah, the color is really growing on me. I was going to do triple black, but I wanted the natural leather interior after reading Eduardo's threads and my wife and daughter really liked the Mahogany/brown/ brown a lot.
I can't heel/toe at all. And, haven't been over 4200 RPM. Otherwise I have no complaints. Limited rear visibility, but I knew that going in.
More pics to follow, promise...

Keith, it looks great! Much better than when I saw it last on the assembly line with the wrong color rear bumper!

Saludos,
Eduardo

Windows up, heater and seats on, hat on = Good To Go!

45-degress or better is my minimum for having the top down.

Nice to hear from you Eduardo! It was assembled in Osnabruk and shipped it of Embden. The rear bumper matches nicely, but they wouldn't honor my request for the "balance of payment delete" option

I'm really more of a coupe guy, but really liked driving this car. And, being somewhat frugal, didn't want to pay more AND full price or close to it for a Cayman. It just worked out that Brad was able to get a '13 allocation (ie, before the price increase) that was getting locked in less than 10 days from the day I stopped in. Everything happened pretty fast and I got a car built to order that I'm driving 9 weeks after the order and right at the start of the driving season. Couldn't pass that up.
I did put the top down for the trip home from the gas station (24 mpg, mostly highway) and it was nice. It was also sunny and 60 by then.
Should log another 100 miles or so today - looks like another nice one, even if its 37 now!

Congratulations. It's a beautiful ride! And get that top down more!

Standard cab set up:
- gloves on...
- scarf on..
- heater on defrost...
- close the passenger vents (errr... If you don't have a passenger...)
- heated seats on...
- wind deflector up...

I had mine down all winter. No other experience like it, save for a motorcycle perhaps.
