Default Considering this trade…

I just recently had purchased a 2024 Nissan Z, Performance Model for some $42k (mistake) and at 77 years, want my last car to be a Porsche. I am no longer the aggressive driver I was when younger, don’t really use the 400 HP, extra power and speed, thinking of giving it up and getting a Porsche Cayman. There is a low mileage (30k) 2016 Porche Cayman that I could fly out and get. He is firm on a price of $43,500. Not sure if it’s a good price but it’s got the tan interior I like. Its stock.

I cannot seem to find a 2014-2016 Cayman with under 30k miles, Automatic and clear title, for that price.

Get a PPi and if it checks out just get it. As long as the car is well maintained who cares about a few grand this way or that. I bought my cayman base and easily spent 5k more because of. Covid prices. Three years later Car is paid off, and just a blast to drive. Not missing that 5k at all. Spent 5k more with tune and headers. Worth every penny for that glorious sound. Smiles are worth a lot at my age of 53, they are worth more at 77. Good luck.

Thanks! How do I get a PPI? Do I call the local Porsche dealer for it?

I think an independent mechanic would be better. Maybe asking the forums where the car is. Somebody lives near by and uses a good Indy.

Do a google search for Porsche independent. Also google to find the nearest Porsche Club of America (PCA) chapter. Many have a magazine where independents advertise. Many Porsche dealers no longer do PPIs but call there service department and see if they recommend anyone. A 2016 Cayman is almost ten years old. Check the age of the tires regardless of tread and battery. Porsche recommends new plugs every four years. Common to put new pads on old rotors. Ask for maintenance records. It might be worth paying for a CARFAX. Definitely do a PPI especially if it is a manual. Get the VIN and go to vinanalytics to get a build sheet.

At 77, I would not be worrying about a few $k. Buy the Cayman that you love and drive the hell out of it!

Where are you located? There’s bound to be one of us close that can help with a PPI at an independent shop.

That is likely a fine price depending on all the options it has. These cars are lovely to drive, as you know. I saw you previously owned a manual 2014 base 981. You must be missing it to consider getting another in the same generation!

Yes, had the 2014 manual and I miss it but I had other cars to try. Tried a c6 and C7 Corvette, a 2016 Jaguar F-Type, currently a 400 Nissan Z but as a finale, at 77, want to get back to a Porsche, but AT not manual.

Same age, 77, and have owned a '04 350z (bought it new) and later two Boxsters S's (987 and 981). While the Nissan is a great car for the money, it is no match for either Porsche, especially the current 981 BS. Frankly, after driving a mid-engined BS, the 350z seemed very front heavy and almost tedious to drive . Once the 987 arrived, I just stopped driving the Z and then decided to trade both for the 981. While hard to describe, the 981 is so much more refined and confortable than the Z and even the older 987. Since all were 6-speeds, I really can't comment on getting a PDK vice manual, but suggest that you go with a 981.

I have the new 2024 Nissan Z after having had the 370 7 and a 2006 350Z. The new 400Z is powerful and very comfortable and while a great grand tourer, it does not handle as well, does not quite hug the road as the Porsche. Being 6’4”, I am not as comfortable in the Cayman but I have decided I want one.

I love reading your guys’ car stories bringing you back to Porsche. I had a 987.2 M6, Infiniti G37 IPL, BMW e46 M3 SMG, a Trans Am WS6, and more, and my favorite so far is the 981 PDK. I also own a Macan but that is the wife’s. If you are concerned about ease of use, you may want to check out a newer Macan S. In my opinion it punches far above its weight class and I can see how anyone could make it the only Porsche they own.

I sorely miss the 987.2 and the M3, but such is life. I get to keep the family memories we made while driving them and maintaining them. We love owning our Porsches.

To the original poster, I sure do hope you find and buy the perfect Porsche for you.
