Default 2015 Cayman GTS Valuation Feedback

Hey guys, I'm possibly going to sell my GTS because while I would like to daily drive it, I'm worried it is a bit too bright for that use. Mainly worried about it standing out in the hospital parking lot and having an angry patient vandalize it. I was wondering where y'all think the valuation stands given the information provided below. It seems that around $75k is what a manual Cayman GTS with similar miles would sell for, but the ones I've seen have less options. I was thinking maybe $80-85k?

2015 Cayman GTS
Racing Yellow/Black
12k miles
6MT
Two owner
Clean title and carfax
Annual maintenance history (at dealership under 1st owner and DIY under mine)
Oil change, brake flush, and cabin filters replaced in Nov 2024
Tire date codes from 2021 IIRC
No track use
Fidelity platinum warranty, transferrable (exp Oct 2028)
Options list pictured below

Flaws:
Small scuff on rear bumper (1.5 x 0.5 cm)
Peeling wheel center caps (will replace)

Mods:
OE clear side markers
Suntek PPF front bumper, hood, fenders, rocker panels, and headlights
70% Suntek window tint
Cargraphic catted headers
Numeric Racing shifter
BMC intake filters
AWE wind diffuser
718 wheel with OE leather airbag
OE Racing Yellow seatbelts
Rennline phone mount with charger
Radiator mesh grilles

I have all of the original parts. I would most likely reinstall the stock headers, shifter, and steering wheel unless buyer wants them.

Because I am a nice fellow Porsche owner, I will do you a solid and trade you straight up for my 2014 Cayman S with MT in a much more favorable for you color of silver!

PS, are you that bad of a Dr that your patients are that mad at you, or is it just when they see the bill?

it’s a nice spec, for sure. my initial thought was that 75 was a strong number…but pccb and low miles, ok. 80-85 if you find the right buyer isn’t out of the realm of possibility. as long as i’m slinging opinions…keep it and daily drive it.

As others have mentioned, I would consider just how much it actually stands out and weigh that concern against the possible expense of replacing with something else. Are there other similarly nice vehicles in the lot? Is there security and/or cameras where you are parked?

You can what if? yourself into selling your GTS but I'd at least spend a bit of time looking at the real risks versus the driving pleasure the car gives you

Data point:
I bought my 2015 Boxster GTS last summer for $71k. It was stock (which seems to bring more money even though I like mods), flawless body and interior, had 8k miles, PPF on front end, new tires, aftermarket extended warranty, and is Agate Great over black. Regular brakes. Based on my knowledge of the market last year, I paid on the high end, which was ok to me because I got what I wanted, AND IT WAS LOCAL, so I was able to test drive it and no shipping required.

I think Caymans seems to go for a little more, although that confuses me.

If you love the car what about wrapping it in a more mellow color?

My opinion on cars like this is it's value is directly related to the amount of time and effort you're willing to put into selling it. You may well be able to find a buyer at $75-80k, but more than likely it's going to take a long time for that person to come along and you might have to list it all over the place to find them, and probably deal with a lot of "lowballers" along the way.

There is 1 week price, 1 month price and 6 months price. In my opinion, your expectations are for >1 year effort out. You do the math. Mods don't bring much value except PPF. You have great spec for sure (manual with extended warranty specifically) but yellow color will limit your buyer’s pool.
Good luck.

Yes, I know mods don’t add much value, hence why I would remove the major ones. I just submitted the car to BaT in case I decide to go thru with selling it. I don’t like wraps and would not consider wrapping this car. I reallyyyyyy like the car but wouldn’t say I love it…maybe switching to catless headers would change that. It’ll still never be a Mezger though lol. I will say though, this example has set a high standard for the 981 chassis, so if I were to sell it, I would not be able to get into another one in the future unless it’s a 981/718 Spyder or Spyder RS (the only 981/718 upgrades to my eyes).

Lol not a doc, just a med student. But I worked in healthcare for years before I started school, and patients will get mad over things that are out of your control like ER wait time or not being given the narcotic that they’re seeking. And sometimes they’ll assault staff, vandalize property, and even had a case of someone’s car getting stolen. To be fair, all this happened at the safety net hospital I worked at, and the hospital I’ll be rotating at starting this summer isn’t a safety net hospital.

Parking situation is that it’s literally just a few large open lots. The yellow Cayman WILL stand out, regardless of where I park. Will an upset patient key the car? Most likely not (hopefully), but you never know. Also, it would probably feel awkward pulling up to my clinic rotations since those lots are smaller, and both patients and staff will know I drive the expensive yellow car—med students already get bullied by staff so I wouldn’t be surprised if I get bullied more lol. Someone please tell me this is just my brain gaslighting me and that it’ll work out okay. 😭

My two car solution will be my M3 and a flat six Porsche. I hate seeing the Cayman just sit, so my options are to either sell it or daily it. But DDing it brings up the aforementioned concerns, hence why I made this thread. A non-GT Cayman or 911 in a similar price range or cheaper would feel like a downgrade.

So I’m thinking a 996 or 997 GT3 in a muted color would replace the Cayman if I decide to sell (997 GT3 has been my dream car since 2016 when I rode in a 7.2 3RS at the track, and reaffirmed when I drove a 7.1 3RS last Nov). Sure it’s more expensive, but it definitely wouldn’t stand out in a sea of black, grey, and white cars. They look like old cars to most people so less questioning about the value. The 997 would not make me regret selling the 981, especially the one I’m looking at (white, immaculate condition, OE RS wing, aftermarket exhaust). I’ve never experienced a 996, so I can’t say for certain that I won’t regret switching to one. Financially, 996 is definitely doable and I’m still figuring out if 997 is doable.

Sorry for the wall of text. I was trying to respond to everyone and give more context/clarification.

sounds to me like you want the GT3 and are justifying selling the GTS to get it. There's nothing wrong with that but I doubt if you're not comfortable driving the GTS to work that you'll be any more comfortable driving a GT3 that is worth a lot more. You're justifying it to yourself based on color but the reality is the GT3 likely won't be your "daily" any more than the GTS is so you need a second car regardless. Again, not judging, we all have car ADHD and want the next thing so we go through the justification process in much the same way.

In terms of value, as others have mentioned $80-$85k may be doable but not quickly. My other feedback in looking at the market is while your spec is very nice and PCCB's were not often spec'd on 981's, what makes the GTS special is in large part due to the interior upgrades with Alcantara and the GTS interior package. Your car eliminated the alcantara which is a big selling point to most people on the GTS as a whole. Without it the experience isn't as differentiated and from what I've seen the full leather GTS cars have sold for less than the GTS package interior cars.

Lol fair enough…I’ve been dying for an NA Mezger after I drove that RS. But seriously, if the car was any other color I would be less worried about dailying it to the hospital and clinics. The amount of attention the car got while I was studying at the coffee shop yesterday was crazy, which is fine in that setting, but it may be prone to vandalism at the hospital by an angry pt or a pt maxed out on meth, and probably a bad look at a small clinic lol.

I’m switching to Porsche Insurance tomorrow to see how I feel about daily driving it for the next few months. Again, the car itself is totally fine..it’s just the color (which I love but maybe not as a daily). I would absolutely daily a GT3—I think they’re meant to be driven and using it as a daily would be good for my mental health. I wouldn't care about the value and adding miles on a 997 GT3 bc it would be a keeper car, but I’m not so sure if that would be the case for a 996.

Anyways, since I can’t do anything about the color, I’m gonna try to get myself to like the GTS more. Turns out that I like driving it more when I heel-toe vs auto-blip. Switch to catless headers to see if I like the exhaust note more than the current Cargraphic catted + PSE combo. And tune to get rid of the annoying burbles. Hopefully this works out because the car looks amazing but the driving experience has been a tad lacking; if not, BaT and I have agreed on a reserve.

This is such a nice spec that I would keep it for your future. Things change. Sure you don’t use it a lot now, but you never know what the future holds and you might miss it. This is the car I wanted minus the pccbs. I saw one for 73k but my wife was so adamant against yellow, she felt it was too showy and would bring too much attraction. I ended up with an agate grey base could not be happier. Added tune, headers X73 and PSE and she’s perfect and spent a lot less. Not sure it blends in that much but more than red or yellow. Go with your gut. As a future Dr my guess is you will have the money to buy another.

I'm gonna daily drive it for the next few months once the new insurance kicks in and see how I feel about it. I also ordered new headers to hopefully get a higher pitched scream out of the exhaust in an effort to get somewhat closer to the Mezger exhaust note. Funny enough, earlier this week a surgeon at my school wanted to talk about the car, and I brought up my concerns with him. He said the hospital shouldn't be a problem, but it would probably be awkward pulling up in a yellow Porsche at my underserved community clinic rotation---only 4 weeks so maybe just borrow someone's car during that time. Also said I should use it to pick up nurses, to which I replied "absolutely not" lol. He did encourage me to keep it if I can though...

I'll be honest, I do have serious FOMO about the GT3 and possibly not being able to get into one once I'm a doc due to being priced out of one (if values keep climbing) and/or if life happens and priorities change (I'm just a single dude trying to live his life right now). If I were to sell this year to get a GT3, I would try to buy a 981 or 718 Spyder several years from now.

Again, I have a few months to sit on this. I know the smart thing to do is keep the 981, and do the whole delayed gratification thing, which I'm terrible at, and reward myself with a GT3 when I'm a doc. An exhaust setup that I like and driving a different car during the underserved rotation should do the trick.

I’m a paediatric surgeon and I remember having the same thoughts during my residency! Except I wasn’t lucky enough to own a Porsche back then, it was a Lotus Evora that I was driving.

I did end up selling it but only because I wanted a change and ended up with a F-Type V8. Whilst I’m not in a financial position to acquire a GT3 at the moment (they go upwards of half a million where I live) -I can certainly see the appeal of getting one while you can. Life is short.

All the best man
