Hi, thanks for letting me join. I have a question re my multi function display. I keep getting the attached message come up. I have unchecked all that relates to speed limits, so in theory there should be no reason? I have also installed a new head unit and wondered whether that had anything g to do with it. Perhaps via the old Porsche navigation??
Any help gratefully received.

It's probably related to the removal of the OEM head unit; one scenario where this warning happens is when there is no navigation data.
Thanks but no there is no connection. I seldom use cruise control and the warning message appears consistently at the same time after I set off on my journey, typically after about 0.5 - 1.0km.
You state that you have unchecked all that is related to speed limits, but you don't say which ones you found. You must be missing one somewhere. I assume that you did the one on the actual display as in the photo. This is where I would guess it is coming from. You should also have all the map, navigation, and phone info turned off since you can't get that info from your new HU. If you have those unchecked and you are still getting the error, then I would guess that the PCM has some setting that was still set to send that info out when you removed it, and the display is still looking for that info. You may have to put the PCM back in the car and find the setting on there and unselect it, then remove the PCM and put your new unit it. I am running an android HU in my 981 and I don't have that issue, so I know there is a way around it. Do you have an aftermarket HU that was made for the PCM replacement that has a canbus unit to communicate with the car, or do you have a standard double din aftermarket unit that works in any car?
I will have to reinstall the original head unit and go through the options again I guess…… This is the 2nd time but I don’t see another option. For clarity the head unit is an Erisin, which came highly recommended through another forum (see attached).
one further question - would disconnecting the battery when removing the old unit and installing new one make a difference? I didn’t do that previously.
I should also add that I don’t have the multi function steering wheel I have the Sports steering wheel, which means I use the stalk on the lower right side of the steering wheel to manoeuvre around the MFD with limited functionality too.
I have the Chstek HU in my car (very similar to the Erisin). I didn't disconnect the battery when installing it. I have a non-multi-function steering wheel and use the stalk also. I don't have this issue, so I don't think it has anything to do with that.
OT, and not speaking from personal knowledge, but several people who seem to know what they're talking about have mentioned that letting the tank run this low on these cars is a bad idea:

Yeah, I heard that too. I just filled it this morning. I think the main issues with a low tank is when doing a lot of hard cornering which causes the fuel to move away from the sending tube which sucks air into the pump and kills the fuel pump. But thanks for the heads up!

Hello friends, I'm in France and I've installed a dual screen and I have exactly the same problem as you. I wanted to know if you've solved your problem. I ordered a Piwis to try to deactivate this option and no longer have the message. I'm waiting for your response. Pierre S.
This is my best understanding of this info, but I'm not 100% positive on it. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
The speed limit display information comes from the navigation maps on the original PCM head unit. If you removed the original head unit, then the car will not be able to get the speed limit information which is why you get the error message. If you programmed that out of your car with a PIWIS and are no longer getting the error message, then you have done all that you can do. There is no way to get the speed limit to show up with an aftermarket head unit (until someone comes out with a head unit that has that information programmed into their canbus).
The speed limit display is available on all 981s with the PCM3.1 which has navigation. It is considered an option on the car and is not activated on all the cars that have the PCM3.1. That is why some cars have this issue when changing head units and others don't. If you get this error, then you need to turn off the options on the display as well as possibly program it out of the car with a PIWIS, Thinkdiag, or similar.
Ok my friend I will therefore delete this option with piwis it does not matter if I do not have the reading of the signs... but the error message is annoying... thank you very much😁
I'm attaching a photo anyway because the result is magnificent despite that..

I have seen two kinds of speed limits display. One is controlled by the GPS on the navigation system and displays the speed limit for the particular road you are on. Another one relies on a front camera which recognizes speed limit signs and displays the latest speed limit.
