Default Steering wheel upgrade for 981

Hello,
Looking to do a steering wheel upgrade as I have the non sport wheel with the multi-function.
Would I be able to add a (non-multi function) sport wheel and loose the multi-function with no other issues?

Get this instead: https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...040000901.html The installation requires some work but I think it is easier than swapping the steering wheel.
If you swap the steering wheel you wont have access to your dashboard menu anymore, unless you add the lever to the steering wheel column. It also wouldn't be a simple swap, you would need some programing.

Any reason you don't want to upgrade to a newer MF wheel? Both the TechArt paddles and the downgrade to a non-MF wheel will call for some fast talking at resale time.

The 981 Sport design wheel looks cleaner, and less busy...NOT worried about resale

Have to agree to disagree on that one, for sure. All of the OEM 9x1.1 wheels are butt-ugly compared to the later ones from the .2 generation.

This is very subjective. I have the same steering wheel on my 2015 GT3 Clubsport so guess it has grown on me...

I upgraded to a Macan wheel with paddles. It looks and feels great. (No pics and I can't find a forum app for my phone and I'm too lazy to add one via my PC).

Looks a lot like this one ;-]

Added Macan PDK wheel to my 981 Boxster S - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums

This is what mine ended up looking like:

Expensive, but it helps suppress the temptation to upgrade the whole car, so it actually SAVES money!

The launch control indication is a valid question. With this wheel, you'd have to rely on the instrument-panel display.

These are the part #s I used (in addition to the GPS adapter needed to make the multifunction controls work):

The airbag I used is a bit nicer than the one in my Macan but also more expensive (I understand it is meant for the GT cars.) So if I had to do it again I'd probably use the actual Macan part number ( 95B-880-201-BN-A34 ).

Still by far my favorite mod on my 981. It's a Alcantara 991.2 SW from a GTS car with SC dial and multi function. I used the adapter-x to make it all work. I also upgraded the paddle shifter with carbon fiber, magnetic shifter found on the 992 GT3 RS cars.

Take a look at this tread...looks like a good product with lots of posts...much less costly than the OEM wheels

what concerns me is the lack of data around the airbag that comes with that wheel, though it does look very nice. For me, I don’t think saving $500-$700 is worth the uncertainty of an aftermarket airbag.

Looks great! Does the dial for the drive mode work?
