Default Battery replacment for 981 Boxster

Does anybody have experience with this battery to replace the OEM battery? https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c...orsche-boxster
I just got a ultra low mileage car which was hardly driven (less than 1000 miles after the last battery replacement 5 years ago). I don't know if the last owner used a battery maintainer or not and even though battery seem to be fine, I think it is a cheap insurance to just replace the battery. Any thoughts on that and on the battery I posted would be appreciated.

I don't have any personal experience w/ the battery you linked to. I'd try researching to see who makes that battery for them, then dig a little deeper to make sure they're a reputable manufacturer. I went with a "Duracell" from BatteriesPlus because that battery is manufactured by East Penn Mfg. which is one of the top battery manufacturers you can go with.

Thank you! I looked up your battery and at Sam's club they have it but the reviews are really not great. Many are saying the battery doesn't last long. I would go for the OEM if I can get it below 300 dollars. The one I posted was from another thread but that one has some bad reviews too. I even don't know if my battery needs replacement, it is just a cautionary measure.

I wouldn't go by those reviews. Search on forums like BITOG, etc. I think you'll find that EP batteries are consistently regarded as one of the best. Of course, check date codes to make sure something hasn't been sitting around and there's always an off chance someone gets a dud. But in general, this would be my recommendation.

Turn on the auto stop-start, it not working is one the first indicators of a failing battery. Some auto stores and shops will load test your battery. I have an Interstate H7 AGM from COSTCO. They don't install. YouTubes on DIY install. Stepping into the frunk is a common method but the floor needs to be reinforced. Resetting the window up and down stops is all that is needed after a new battery. Much debate on the need to register the battery but consensus is its for info purposes unless you switch between flooded and AGM. Use a CTEK maintainer or equivalent for long dormant periods like the Winter or vacations. Having a lithium jump pack is good insurance. If the battery really dies doing a frunk jump is a PIA. The emergency frunk release is buried in the left front wheel liner almost impossible to find with the wheel on. If you have wheel locks consider keeping the key in the car vice in the frunk.

One good thing about Costco is their warranty. I had an Interstate from Costco in my SVX and it died 2 years after I bought it. I bought it in and got a new one, no questions asked. No experience (yet) with using one in a Porsche though.

Costco | Interstate Batteries allows you to search for the fitting battery for your car.

The H6, PR 195, is the OEM size. The H7, PR197, is a larger which also should fit as the mounting plate is adjustable. I installed part #1624799 which is the H6 PR195.

you’re right, i concur that the h6 is oem size. the h7 DOES fit perfectly and is my “no brainer” suggestion unless you’re shedding weight, in which case an antigravity battery is the common direction.

So just to reconfirm: When I get the Costco Battery, there is no re programming necessary? Just plug and play?

i can’t tell you the porsche-approved technical answer…i can only say that i pulled the oem battery and put in the h7 94r in my 2016 bgts…just like it was a 72 pickup…disconnect one, connect the new, and DRIVE!! no battery maintainer tricks, and no reprogramming.
