The up/down switch for the driver's side window of my 2014 Porsche Cayman S broke off. The part number appears to be 99161315102DML. A web search showed the switch available for an MSRP of $266 with discounts from other suppliers having the price down to $207, $201, even $178. But, being the cheap SOB I am, I found one on the web new for $49.95. So I purchased it. Well, it works alright, and it looks alright, but there's a problem. The automatic up/down function doesn't work with this switch. I'm referring to the ability to just start the window up/down and it will complete its travel the rest of the way by itself.
So, before I suck it up and buy an OEM switch, is there something I need to know about the automatic up/down window function? That is, this switch is actually OK, but it has to be reprogrammed through a scan tool or something like that? I mean, externally, the switch looks exactly the same. The only difference being the old one had a Porsche part number sticker and the new one did not. At first I thought, "This switch is a cheap Chinese knock-off". Yet, believe it or not, both are marked, "Made In China".
Have you verified the new switch has the 2-position on down? The switch has 3 actual positions; one is open, two is close, the third is the "one-touch operation".
You may just need to reprogram the position of the window.. Here's the relevant page(s) from the owner's manual that tells you how to do this..
Yep, it's a cheap, Chinese, knock-off alright. Neither window switch is two-position. Hence, the automatic function doesn't work.
Heads up. guys! If your switch breaks, beware, the cheap one doesn't have all its functionality! And thanks to saabin.
I don't know if it's an option, but I noticed that the window switches in my 2013 VW Touareg look exactly the same as those in my GTS. Maybe a switch designated for a VW would be less expensive than one for a Porsche.
I bought a window switch off amazon for very cheap and the windows work perfectly, one touch functions without issue. Only problem I have with the switch is the LED lighting in it is much brighter than the stock standard backlighting so you can tell at night it's not OEM. Outside of that it looks identical and functions properly. Link below to the one I purchased, it was even cheaper than $50 back when I bought last year but seems price went up a few dollars.
I think dav9515 lucked out and got a switch with full functionality. For sure, this one is just single position. In short, I won't be buying any more $50 switches. :-)
Yeah, really, removing the door panel is the way to go. There is a YouTube showing a fellow prying the switch up from the armrest and using a needle nose pliers to deal with the connector. I was able to pry it up from the armrest and remove the connector with a needle nose pliers, but I couldn't get the connector to snap back into place on the new switch. The wires are just too short. After fiddling around awhile, I gave up and removed the door panel to gain access to the underside of the switch. Removing the panel is pretty straightforward and I didn't break anything. The underside of the switch and its wires are right there.
I recently purchased one on ebay $28 . I removed the panel, much easier than trying to pry it out the front and possibly scratching up the panel. All works as it did. The only difference is the indicator for side mirror retract as my Cayman do not have that functionality.
Welp, I've got to 'fess up. I recently pulled up on the window switch that I had accused of being just one position and ... it is two position after all. All this time I just wasn't being assertive enough when pulling up or pushing down. I guess I was afraid of breaking this one too. Oh well...

I just wanted to say in Piwis along side all porsches i found the VW Touareg programming. No other VW/VAG car, just the touareg.
In my 991.1 I replaced the driver's window switch unit with one from AliExpress for about $25. It looks, feels and works exactly like OEM and was a 20-minute job. Don't hesitate to DIY!

i diyed mine with the oem part, I wanted to use the chinese one but they did not all have automatic window up, auto down only. I also learned after that the OEM part is made in china anyway, some other cheaper plastics parts in car are made in germany. I fell like at least trying the knock off is the way to go.
