Hi guys, I have a 2015 981 with X73 and did the GT3 Steering upgrade at S Car Go in San Rafael the other day. All the same feedback from other members is very true. Much easier to drive around town and you start to instantly forget what it was like to have the heavier steering feel.
My problem is that now the steering will not return to center on its own at parking lot speeds. So if I am parked and start driving and I make an immediate left or right 90 degree trun, the steering will stay at that angle and not return to center on its own. You have manually bring it to center. This is annoying and dangerous if you take off quickly and don't know or forget. Took it to Porsche Marin. They said my alightment was off. They fixed that. Same thing, Steering still does not return to center at parking lot speeds. Once you are driving it returns perfectly. Car tracks perfect. Rack was checked is is also perfect. The steering did not do this before the GT3 EPS software upgrade. Anyone else have this?

Well... I can tell you this... I had a 981 GTS and now a 718 Spyder... the Spyder's steering has that attribute as well. Return-to-center is not-present or quite reduced. You need to be paying attention to your steering input at all times now! Let's see if others corroborate this.

I think what you're experiencing is one of the normal side effects of having a steering rack that actually transmits what is going on with the tires. At parking lot speeds there isn't much centering force on the tires so the steering reflects that. I think it would be stretch to call this dangerous. Perhaps just don't boot the throttle at full steering lock with your hands off the wheel haha.

As the OP mentioned, the GT3 and the 981 share the same rack. Does the GT3 RS have the same one?
If not, just wondering if that's potentially dangerous in some way.

Hi Sajan, I'm about to do the same mod on my 981 CS at the Porsche dealer , but just noticed that you have selected "991 COUPE C2/C2S" option from the drop menu. Any reason why I should NOT select the "GT3 Strasse" option ?
Thanks for your help

I am extremely interested in trying this out. Anyone in or near San Diego with a PIWIS that could help me out? I'd be more than happy to compensate you for your time!

You pose a very interesting question. The 981 Spyder is, I think, unique for 981 cars. The Spyder has the actual steering rack from the 991.1 Turbo S, which is supposed to be a physically quicker rack. It seems that if you use PIWIS to change the steering software on the 981 Spyder EPS it allows GT3RS, but not GT3. This is what I recall, but I am not certain. I do not know what steering rack (not the EPS software) the 991.1 GT3RS has, but somebody here should have the answer.

It is so easy to change. Someone that has both GT3 and GT3 RS options could test in about 5-10 minutes on the same curvy road. If someone wants to try in NY/NJ I have the PIWIS 2. My base only had GT3 option so I can’t do it alone. But the GT3 is great, no complaints at all.

Are you still doing this upgrade? I'm in the NYC/northern NJ area and was wondering if you could do this for a 991.1 base? Sorry I think my profile is new so I can't send PMs. I'll pay you as well. Thank you!
