Default Busta Rib's 981 Boxster GTS Build Thread

I am a long-time Porsche 911 owner and usually start a build thread for every car I buy because I like to tinker and document what I've done. I'm the fortunate new and 2nd owner of a 2016 6-spd Boxster GTS in PTS Gulf Orange! Check this thread for updates on mods and other things I plan on doing to the car, plus more car **** and pics.

I come from owning a 997.2 GT3 that I converted into a Touring. Prior to that, I've owned a 997.1 C2S and a handful of aircooled 911s (see below). Some are probably wondering why the hell did you go from a GT3 to a BGTS?! No doubt, the GT3 is the best 911 and car I've ever owned/driven. But I am an old man now and my driving style and preferences have changed. I prefer cruising over driving like I stole it. The GT3 was just too much car and too raw for me at this point in my life. Plus I live in an area that is sunny 90% of the time and I want to take advantage with some open-top driving.

I already have a couple mods planned and I will update this thread soon. I'm thrilled to be a part of the 981 community and welcome any advice and comments. Cheers! Jim

Of course! I regret selling every single one! But each one has its own story and adventure and enabled me to get the next one. They were all special but of all the 911s I've owned, the one I would love to have back most is the 993. To me it was the perfect balance of old-school with modern amenities. Plus it handled so well. A true classic. GT3 was the best overall car by far. The driving experience is sublime, especially when you wind the engine to redline. The howl at over 5,000 RPM is incredible! It's just way more car than I need/want. But if you can ever experience a 997 GT3 (base or RS), add it to your bucket list. It's the best 911 Porsche ever made or ever will, IMO.

I flew into Dallas and picked up my GTS this past Saturday. What an amazing car and color! It is definitely Gulf Orange and looks spectacular in person. I’m driving back to Bend via Santa Barbara. This is my first roadster and I love having a convertible. This car sounds amazing in Sport mode.

BTW, my Sport Plus button doesn’t seem to work. The light doesn’t come on when I press the button. Is there some trick to it? I’m going to have my local dealer check it out when I get home. It’s a CPO car so if there’s something wrong, it should be covered.

Just press the Sport Plus button and the light comes on and the magic happens. Nothing else to be done. Does the Sport mode work?

Yes, Sport works, but not Sport Plus.

Congrats Jim on the new car, would love to see it in person! I guess the next time I am in Bend I will have to meet up for a drive. I wonder/strongly suspect the reason your Sport Plus mode doesnt work has to do with the Stop Sale on cars of this era with Sport Chrono. They likely disabled it to make the car emission compliant, just a theory but worth checking into.

Yes, give me a shout next time you are in town! I will also give you a heads up next time I am back in Seattle. That is an interesting supposition about the stop sale issue. I wasn't aware of that for the 981s. Can you elaborate what happened? I will check with my local dealer as well and report back.

997 GT3 is on my list of a must own one day.
