For the total cost of car and kit ~30kish. They will start to notice, when you come off the line. I am actually going to see for myself next summer on my 987 boxster. Small, light, mid-engine rocket!
Cheers!
Or you can put that $30k into upgrading to a GT4 and maintain the reliability you’ll give up doing the turbo conversion you are recommending. Or you can invest the $ into improving yourself as a driver and then maybe even a cheaper 091 Cayman S like mine would be adequate to keep up with the big dogs on track.

That’s just flushing $$$ down the drain. Boxsters need no HP. Just don’t brake, fly into turns, and you won’t need HP to get out of them. Those who understand this love their Boxsters. For those who don’t, no amount of extra HP will make them love them.

I couldn’t have said it better. If you need big hp there are no shortage of other cars to choose from.

I love mine but a 4.5L won't hurt.

A Cayman will never have the traction/handling of a 911. Even a base 911 has more grip than a GT4. It has nothing to do with the engine or power and everything to do with the rear suspension. 911 has multilink rear suspension setup and all Boxster/Cayman (including the GT4) have a strut setup. The internet and magazines love to tout 0-60 and hp but the mid engine Porsches are handicapped primarily by the suspension nowadays. Multilink is expensive. This means nothing for fun to drive and capability on public roads.... just worth mentioning in a competitive track scenario.

A cayman with the 4.0l h6, shorter gearing and multilink rear suspension is the car Porsche can never make because it will be the best car they've ever created but won't have a 911 badge.

My 2018 Boxster GTS draws huge attention and positive comments but I chalk that up to the color, Miami Blue, as much as anything. People come up to confirm the color have even said they thought they hated they color from magazines, but can't believe how much they are drawn to it in person. Porsche folks, including guys in 911's and specifically GT3's often point out how much easier it is drive fast in my car because it is mid-engined as opposed to rear.

Color is a HUGE factor in drawing people to a particular car--especially Miami Blue, that color just "pops" over anything on the road, beautiful color! Same thing with my Amaranth Red Boxster S. I had a white 987.1 Cayman prior and hardly a look. Not so with the red Boxster S.

LOL, I understand this, but I DID want more HP than my 2.5L could give. got tired of pointing by every single car every track day.

I don't have a Spyder, I have a 2013 BB, but I was at a light one day and a guy on a motorcycle yelled out to me; "Why don't you get a REAL Porsche". I shouted back at him;'Yeah spoken from a guy on a Honda!" He didn't appreciate that on his Sportster, and took off weaving in and out of traffic.

For the most part, I get a LOT of positive attention with my car.

That's because the 981 is a beautiful car! The lines are so right. Look at any 981 from the side, and tell me that pencil line from the *** through the hips connected through the shoulders couldn't be more perfect. And this is coming from a guy that loves 911s!

I usually get comments like I am not a boxster type of person but your spyder is really cool though.

plenty of attention at Porsche meetings and other car events.

on the road not so much as the 356 speedster replica I used to drive

Quick Reply: Not a lot of love for the Boxster.
