Another question, perhaps for the people here and other people that might not have replied yet:

What are your average running costs per year for maintenance? Any additional details such as whether you go to the dealership or an indy, whether you weekend run or daily drive, and the service intervals you have hit would be highly appreciated.

    • e.g. I found a 2016 Cayman with 81k miles on the clock; is there anything that would be overly concerning about buying one with mileage like that if I plan to keep the car for at least a few more years?
I suspect for reliability - the 987.2 series cars are the winners. They had the new engines with no IMS problem (and no IMS..) and if you read here - all the engines used have been pretty much bulletproof (no bore scoring - 5 oil pumps helped that out). Mechanically the rest of the car was already in production for 4 years so the bugs had been engineered out. The introduction of PDK meant not worrying about a money-shift, and the car is faster than the manual transmission (love my PDK). Appearance issues were non-existent.

Hmmmm,... didn't have any of those problems, nor the door-panel delamination, on the 987.2 series.

And there are lots of 987's and 981's running around over 100k miles now - mostly reporting no issues at all. My 2009 987.2 is regularly mistaken for a new Porsche with a guessed price tag of around $90k. I find that pretty funny figuring I paid a small fraction of that for the car.

To help you with the annual maintenance cost question: Owned my 15 BGTS for almost exactly one year. Car was certified (a must for me) at purchase with 12K miles, which included spark plug change which timed-out at 4 years from new. Car now has 20K miles so I just had the 5 year maint done at the Porsche dealer, which is a minor service that included oil and filter, air cleaners, convertible drain tube cleaning, and general checks. Cost was $465. So far that’s is all. Most of what was done could easily be DIY. I also changed out the Stock F1 tires as soon as the rears wear bars showed (About 17000 miles), because they were loud and I was eager to put MPSS 4s’s on the car. That was about $1700 All in.
