Flat 6 Motorsports - Project 981 Cayman Build Thread
Hey all, we've been a sponsor here on Rennlist for some time. We recently picked up a 981 base 2.7L Cayman, manual w/ 5K miles. We'll be doing a build series on our YouTube channel, so feel free to follow along. We're also planning on posting some of our progress here as well as our Blog. We'll feature install guides, dyno tests, and impressions along the way!

Please do some dyno pulls stock vs headers/stock catback if possible. I've heard this is the best value for gains on the 2.7L, but there's a rather small sample size since most people add an exhaust in addition to headers, and even fewer do multiple dyno pulls.

Thanks and our pleasure. A lot of the parts are identical between the trims. Obviously the 3.4L will respond differently than the 2.7L but it should be fairly similar to gains when it comes to power adders.

Definitely subscribed. Have Cobb and considering IPD competition plenum & high flow cats but was cautious based on some conflicting feedback on plenum (most seem to agree at least cats help). I understand that you don't have a dyno but (after upgrading the cats) will you go straight to a custom tune or start with the OTS Stage 2 from Cobb? As others have said, thanks for doing this!

Definitely subscribed. Have Cobb and considering IPD competition plenum & high flow cats but was cautious based on some conflicting feedback on plenum (most seem to agree at least cats help). The 2.7L put down a peak HP number of 229.6 HP @ the wheels on a DynoJet dyno at 95 degrees fahrenheit.
Power Adding Mods will include:

Agency Power 200 Cell Headers
Soul Performance Products Valved Exhaust System

Saw the third episode, keep em coming, very interesting stuff!! I was surprised as well at the premature power drop off. Since you were soliciting feedback with regards to the upgrade, I think it would be great to see:

I personally was interested in doing the intake side first just to hear the difference before we did the exhaust side. Once all that hardware was done, we planned to do a dyno with no tune, Cobb Stage 2 tune, and then dial in our custom map all at the same time. That means only one more trip to the dyno.
I just wanted to leave it open for feedback! Thanks, we're really looking forward to installing these parts.

I am with the general ideas Dom991.1 has suggested. It would of course be great to make one mod, do a pull etc, but understand this could be cost prohibitive. Basically what does an "improved plumbing" combination of intake and exhaust mods do for real world power AND drivability. Then add a tune that takes advantage of these mods. Your 0-60 times may be more informative than the dyno IMHO.
My personal experience with these types of mods is with American V8's in 4x4's and I didn't dyno test them due to cost, but the power gains were clear to anyone who drove these vehicles.
