Thanks for these numbers, it's pretty impressive! One question, I thought a selling point of the plenum that it shouldn't need a calibration to get it's gains? From their web site FAQ:
".........The factory ECU/DME will make all the necessary "adaptive changes" to accommodate the additional air flow provided by the IPD Plenum. A mass air system constantly adapts for changes in the inlet tract. Only in very high power turbo systems are the limits of the stock mass air meter exceeded and provisions need to be made, but short of that the plenum will not cause any calibration issues."
Definitely a huge fan of this thread (and all the changes that you have done) just want to make sure I understand what the plenum will/wont do 'on it's own' or by 'learning' over time as opposed to what it needs a calibration to unlock. It also has soundly convinced me the build is not worth the money. When one adds up everything from a cost stand point it just does not make since in anyway for a car that will certainly exclude itself from any type of warranty, makes itself illegal for stock autocross events, won't give you want you need in any of the modified classes, STILL will not win any type of arms race in HPDE and just might make the car buggy and prone to odd issues and problems. And besides the possibility of it making the car less reliable, it will also make the car more difficult to eventually sell should the owner decide to sell - or certainly narrow any market for the car. Seeing the build progress lays bare the lack of "bang for the buck" and I think will help many just enjoy their Cayman 2.7 for what it is (an awesome vehicle) or redirect their hard earned money toward buying a more powerful sports car if that is what they want -- 2.7 will never be, no matter how much money one plows into it, a powerful sports car.
When all the money is added up on this build you are genuinely approaching the cost of a very low mileage replacement 2.7 engine from a parts house. (I've also seen a 3.4 for about 10k)
I understand guys and gals fiddling and noodling around -- I certainly understand guys wanting a louder exhaust, but going to the length this build went for 243 RWHP? I'd rather put the money in suspension as THAT will truly make the car faster... at least in the track or autocross environment.
Believe me, in no way is this anything negative toward Flat 6 (you guys are awesome)! In fact, the entire thread is a testinmment to how awesome you guys are... who else would take the time and energy?!

Certainly without a turbo or a large displacement non-engineered V8, it's going to be hard to get crazy numbers. If we can see 10-12% gains, that's pretty impressive. We do a lot of Macan and Panamera Turbo tuning, and talk about bang for your buck, tuning is a no brainier there. We are happy to see the gains across the powerband but are anxious to see if we can get more power through tuning. It was a little underwhelming but all things considered, we're happy with the way the car drives in terms of power. It feels a lot more eager and aggressive. Mid range torque is drastically improved which makes a big difference on corner exit. We were hoping to get to VIR with it before we did any chassis/brake upgrades but it's not looking likely as the season is ending.
This build will become more track-oriented down the road. We're taking our time and enjoying the progress. We think there is a bigger audience for the street stuff, but stay tuned in as we'll be doing a lot more mods! We recently looked at what would be required to do a 718 headlight swap.

Thank you Flat 6 for this awesome thread. I tend to agree with Hooser about the cost benefit of the mod package you tested, but that really isn't the point. The fact that you guys put this out there for individuals to decide the value of the mods is an awesome contribution to the 981 community. Your dedication puts you at the top of the list for other modes I am considering. i.e. I can wait for the suspension modification tests you have planned.

I have a Pan Turbo that I kept it very simple with (IPD plenum, BMC air filter and EVOMS tune). With the 981, it's more of a vehicle that we purchased to do stuff like this with. Over time, it will become more track focused so it will go a lot further in the mod department than I would personally if it was just a weekend car that I was going to enjoy. There are always trafeoffs in life! I can say I really enjoy driving the car how it came together to date but looking forward to upgrading the suspension and braking components.
I appreciate the support! We've got some more stuff coming shortly and will also be announcing our Macan S build series for those who have a Macan. Stay tuned! Things will start to slow down a little in December so we should be able to make some more progress on the build and producing content. We're always open for suggestions if there's something you want to see or for us to focus on.

Damn! Absolutely awesome. Can't thank you enough for all the work and details.
I know I had questioned the overall results vs. the cost (especially because we add in the labor), but the final results -- where it adds power and the peak -- plus those acceleration numbers -- are impressive. 1.5 seconds, as any dragger will tell you is a not-insignificant margin. This final video is clouding my thoughts...
It would be nice if perhaps the entire mod set could be offered as say a "power kit" and save a chunk -- I realize, however, there wouldn't be a huge number of folks actually buying it. But if you did -- I'd have to consider a trip to NC for a few days.
