Default 968 turbo RS writeup in Panorama this month

Just got Panorama this morning and read throug the article there was some great feedback about the racing program and the state of porsche in 1992-1994 while our cars were being built and raced. Also some real input from a few interviews with 968 turbo RS drivers and details on setups for the different races it went after.

Just too little to late for porsche it would have been sweet if they would have used all there experience from the 944 turbo cup series races to build say 150 of these cars that way we could have enjoyed at least a few of the leftover parts ha ha

Great story - read it earlier this week on a trip.

If you have access tot he article, take a look at the door pull/door panel - cool stuff.

Yup, standard RS bits. Most RS cars have such door pulls.

These aren't like the typical RS style door panel pulls I've seen before (nothing more than a loop of belt type material secured by a single cap screw). Looks like the map pocket was replaced with a flat panel and the existing door pull was cutoff just after it goes horizontal.

Sorry for the crappy pic...

I actually do like that solution for the vinyl type panel. When I was lightening my car, I just took 944 door cards, and didn't do the pockets, but that looked strange. So I ended up throwing in the pockets. The 968 panels had all the holes I think for the 10 speaker system i had on my car. This covers it up nicely. not sure what I think about the armrest missing.

It is such an aesthetic thing, why not just leave the door panel depression?

What I found most interesting is while porsche backed the cars, they were kinda like you are on your own as far as custom parts were concerned in regards to the driving team. Here take what you want and modify it.

Your welcome! I would love to find the original, these were all press photos off porsche's website at some point. Which is where this came from (but I snarked from another site)

Noticed that the RS does not have the big reds. Always thought they had. Maybe it's big blacks from the 928 GTS? Anyone know, or did the RS have the stock M030 off the ClubSport from which it was built?

If I remember correctly the street Turbo S had the big reds.

I recall reading someone on this site had noted not all 968TS's had big reds. I would state that this car like many of Porsches' prototypes evolved over time and in the first press photos it does look like the car is fitted with M030 brakes.

I did enjoy seeing the evolution of this car through the article, It was nice to see the front bumper w/o cross bar in LeMans livery along with the infamous "Wire rope for front Spoiler mount"

Doesn't have the intercooler exhaust on hood yet either, seems as this car went back and forth to factory a few times for rebuilds and refreshes they were never happy with it and it evolved every time
