There is no blinky light of course but the lock posts go up and down. However the hatch release with the key is inop with the battery disconnected.

Anyone else wanna try? Another difference between model years perhaps?

Normal, hatch has a power release mechanism. It also has a cable release feature in case of battery failure. The Bowden cable runs via the drivers side rear fender. You need to remove the plastic slot piece in the rear of the door jam to get to it.

Sorry I meant the piece for the door lock, that allows the key to mechanically open the door. I would be nice to know the real answer to this, mistake, on purpose or previous owner removed.

Isn't there one under the rear carpet too?

I will check my car again, coupe, I thought I saw a loop on the back behind the carpet.

Could be a coupe vs convertible thing. In convertibles it's by the door jam.

Item #9 should be actuated by item #7 to manually open the doors in the referenced pet diagram. The plastic arm, #9, frequently breaks due to it being plastic, resulting in not being able to get in when the battery is dead. I would check that first

Looking at PET Diagram 803-05, there is an extra cable shown for the CS model and what appears to be a 'loop' on the 'rod' that the normal actuating cable attaches to.

Looking at PET Diagram 803-10, there is an extra bowden cable installed on the Cabriolet.

THANK YOU! This saved me tons of time. There was actually nothing wrong with my latch or release lever, it just bound up and wouldn't budge. I cleaned and lubricated everything and it works like new now.
The hidden cable behind the lamp was a godsend!

What fresh hell is this? Do you mean to tell me coupes have an electric hood release and not a good old fashioned lever in the DS footwell like every other Transaxle car since 1980?

I don’t know if it would have worked with your trickle charger set up or not but I bought one of AntiGravity’s quick start boxes when they offered them at a discount and I use it to open my trunk latch all the time without problems when I have my battery out for the winter.

Speaking of batteries, what battery is that?
My battery takes up lots of room in the engine bay. Yours seems to offer much more room to work around.
Love the battery tray and hold down attachments!

HE is using an Oddesey PC680.... but depends on your use if you choose to use a smaller battery... The smaller batteries don't have the capacity of the larger battery so can drain easier, but if your performance oriented and maintain your car well and don't mind watching the battery a bit more often then they can work in some cases. You don't want to use something that small on a Modern Porsche due to the heavy electronics and computer systems on them and being super sensitive to voltage, but on the 968 I'm not sure so he can explain how it working for him.
