Default 968 fuel pump - which one and where to buy?

My original fuel pump is making a noticeable whirring noise and I'd like to pre-emptively replace it. A quick search online shows many variations of Bosch pumps available. Which one is the equivalent of the factory one or should I just get it from Porsche (Sunset or Hennessey are the ones I use).

Thanks!

Don't overlook the screen in the tank. If it is clogged it will starve the pump for fuel which will cause a cavitation in the pump that can cause a similar noise. Not saying that your pump isn't bad, but fuel starvation can cause premature pump failure whether the pump is old or new. I would check the screen before I replaced the pump and WARNING - a few have attempted to remove the screen to find that it 1) wouldn't screw out and 2) now they had created a fuel leak. Oh, the perils of playing with 25 year old cars....

To add, I would purchase a new screen as preventative maintenance. It comes with the seal even though the part is listed separately. The pump itself is a standard Bosch part that comes with check valve so do not order it separate.

Bosch fuel pump part # 69483, Porsche part 944.608.102.06
Tank filter Porsche part 928-201-081-04

It's a messy job so either try to drain most of the fuel before or run the tank low. I would also purchase an extra hose and have a bolt ready to plug to help with spillage.

Good luck.

Good addition Raj. I have the chemicals and ability to clean these screens and I tend to forget that not everyone does.

And yes, my preference is to idle the car until it starts to sputter from fuel loss. You're gonna loose some fuel regardless, but the less the better.

Fwiw when I got my car a couple months ago the fuel pump was very noisy, thought I was going to have to replace it. Ran a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner and 2 bottles of Techron. No more fuel pump noise....zero!

Thanks guys!

amazon sells the generic Bosch pump for $120 and the filter screen is only $56 shipped from FCP Euro, so I might give the screen a shot first. However since the part is 20+ years old, I might preemptively change it since "I'm in there".

The filter might be cheaper from sunset Porsche and you are guaranteed that the part would be correct.

The original Porsche part for the filter screen from http://www.porschepartssuperstore.com/ is $55.60. Peace of mind. I used this company to provide all the parts for my 80K maintenance project. Beat even local and west coast original Porsche parts suppliers on entire parts order.
