Cup 1 Original vs Italian Question
At some point I'm going to upgrade from my 16" Cup I to 17" Cup I rims for my 968. Could you wise folks tell me how to identify original Porsche rims? I know some are marked Italia or some such thing, are those aftermarket rims?

Yes, when you look inside the original porsche wheel spokes, they will have a part number that starts with a 993.xxx.xxx.xx as well as their height x width and ET stamped (for offset).
Also, the outer lip will also have the offset and width stamped on it by the valve stem.

The easiest is what Raj says. Look at the valve stem on the outside of the rim. You will see the offset on one side and the width on the other side of the stem. Only the OEM has this. And you want the OEM wheels. Speaking from experience, the repos bend easy.

I think some genuine may not have the offset at the valve stem as well.

I have the original Cup1s on Minty (7.5s, 9s) and they have the offset and width on them.
I'm not familiar with a 968 factory wheel that doesn't have the offset and width.

Well I'm not sure about factory specific 968 wheels but I have done some research as I want these wheels as well and in one rennlist thread about cup 1 authenticity some people said there are authentic factory cup 1s that don't have the numbers near the valve stems, perhaps cup 1s for other models.

Could be. But I thought Cup1s showed up in 1992 and left with 1994 and the introduction of the Cup2s. So only a two year run. I know the 968s/928s have the same wheels, 7.5s in front and 9s in the rear. I think 911s had 7s and 8s and 9s.
Here is a Cup1 7 on ebay:

I knew these are getting expensive.

Yup crazy expensive. A set just sold on eBay with our sizes for $1600 though, so that's do able. I have a 9 inch just need 3 more.
Still contemplating getting the Keskin 3.6 for about a grand but cup 1 is just so perfect for this car.

I could be way off here, but my understanding was that the OEM Cup wheels were made in Italy, and that the manufacturer made additional wheels without the Porsche IDs on them. So that would mean that there are "non-Porschefied" wheels out there, made by the OEM to the same specs (minus the part number and valve stem details) as the original equipment.
I read that somewhere about 3 years ago or so, maybe even here somewhere.

I'm sure that the original ones where not the same of the italian brand. Some months ago' I was thinking to get a set of the report and I searched and found the brand that made em ' millemiglia'. I did phone and talked with the owner that told me that they no longer produce then and that they haven't any stock anymore. He told me they also sold the mould to another company and he did me the contact. They still produce them in small quantities.
