Default 1992 968 problems help!!

Hey guys i have a 92 968 my oil light came on but went away i checked the oil seemed pretty low so i added more then later that day my dash light went out and i smelt burning from the air vents and then this morning i just started the car bow my anti lock light is on. Everything works except the dash light even with the dimmer control. I tried locating the fuse but the map is in german. I also know theres a fuse under the dash but i cant find the map for that. But i dont think its the fuse cuz i still smell burning through the vents. Im not driving the car at the moment cuz i do not want to mess it up more. Any suggestions

You need to take it to a shop or make more sense with your description. Either way, I think you need someone with 968 experience to look at your car.

I would disconnect the battery until you get this figured out. It sounds like from your post that you are saying you smell an acrid smell (burning insulation) when the ignition on. If that is the case, get it troubleshot right away and don't leave the battery connected unless you are right there and are actively troubleshooting.

If it is insulation melting, it won't be hard to find!

Best of luck. Don't burn down the house!

So is your oil level correct by checking the dipstick?

Could the burning be caused by spilled oil when filling? Any smoke under the hood?

The lights being out is likely fuse, shorting wire. Check the fuse box under the hood. If you do not have the description, check them all.

Was not the headlight switch burning out a thing on 944s? Did this make it to 968s?

Melted, crumbling and missing insulation on the wires from the alternator, battery, starter and ignition seem to be a common problem as our 968s age. Try a search for "Higher Connection" supplier of heavy duty wire replacement kit.

On second thought search for "Ice Shark" that's the name for the above kit.

I thought the original maker of ice shark kits passed and they are no longer made?

Correct me if I am wrong.

Default 1992 968 problems help!!

Robby took over the business some years ago and apparently made kits of exceptional quality for a time, but Ive tried to contact him for years and never got a reply. You can still buy the battery to starter cable from Porsche for about 125 bucks if i recall, and so I replaced mine this winter, but the alternator cable is currently NLA as new from porsche.

Funny you say this complaint. My 93 is doing the same. My sunroof stopped working too and now my power door locks don't unlock both doors either. Smells like burning wires or acidic smell from the air vents. I haven't found anything yet but the smell is coming from under the dash on driver side. Please keep me posted if you find anything

when i got my car back from the engine swap,

1. my anti-lock light is on
2. when you turn the temp control **** it does nothing. stuck in the cold position/no heat.
3. no insane turbo defrost fan functionality.
4. #29 fuse (HEAT) blows instantly the moment you turn the ignition key.
5. i don't have heat ever

Also i want to do my water pump and timing belt once i get the car back. Anyone know any good repair manuals out there for the 968?
