Sounds like fraud , or deception on the actual year type

What about the engine number ? , it would show that it has a 1993 year type engine , because that would not have been changed ( that I can be sure on )

There is no mention of a M 718 on the PET , no wonder , an option that the owner can have a different Vin number to make the appear a year younger ( Yikes )
It was done at the factory. Inventory backed up and allowed them to reVIN prior to shipping. You'll note the production date on the 718 car is always the previous manufacture year (that is the reason the car's reflect the previous model year traits). Manufacture years for Porsche run July - July. The 718 cars are sometime produced as early as February of the previous manuafacture year (the car in question was produced in April of 1993!). I have an entire page on the 718 cars on the new 968 register web site.

Interesting fact, there were 718 optioned 911s and 928s as well. It was a difficult time for Porsche sales.

Sean, it was my understanding that the rods were changed sometime between midway and late in the '94 production run. like, maybe Dec '93/Jan '94 ?

anyone know? or per Jeff's post, am I way off on the date?

*pardon; I actually meant to say Dec '93/Jan '94.

The last North American 968 was produced in October of 1994 (it was a 1995 coupe).

Alan

Someone will probably post the answer before I have time to find it but I have the TSB from Porsche which states the date and (if I remember correctly) the engine number at which the improved rods were installed. All '94 and '95 I believe.

I have no proof of this but I believe the stronger rods were in anticipation of producing a consumer version of the turbo car. We have no proof that any of the "weaker" rods ever failed. But then came the Boxster and the 968s death.......
