Need a replacement cat, any recommendations?
Hi guys, back after a long stint with 996's, but finally decided the 968 is where I belong. So just bought number 5. A white 93 that has been fairly well track prepped, (yay). Unfortunately here in Oregon, the smog ***** are alive and well, and all have had their sense of humor surgically removed, they are serious. This 93 has the old B&B cat back system but with the dreaded "test pipe" installed. Need to source a new or used kitty to pass smog, they gate title/lic/reg to the smog test.
So can anyone recommend a current vendor that still supplies a 968 cat, at something less than the $1500+ that Porsche gets? Seems like the choices are getting fewer as these great cars age.
Any help much appreciated.

You can definitely get a highflow cat section added to your current exhaust. Make it modular, so you can add it or remove it as needed. Did you try contacting Fabspeed?

We can help you out. At 968 power levels, a 200 Cell cat will provide the same power as a straight pipe, yet clean the exhaust well enough to pass tail pipe emissions tests. Shoot me an email if you wish, Chris@Fabspeed.com

I remember you, great to have you back! Why do you prefer the 968 over 996?
Here's a full 968 exhaust system for a reasonable price:

I've had an 03 996 TT for several years. Insurance is massively higher than 968. While very reliable, parts costs are 2-5x the 968's. Gas mileage 50% lower. There are scrillions on the road in comparison to the 968. Obviously the 996TT stomps the 968 in the hp dept, but with all the electronic nannies keeping you out of trouble near the edge, the 968 is perhaps one of the last "pure" Porsches made. The driver is much more involved in the experience, the driver is actually required to DRIVE rather than ride along. Compared to my 968 Club Sport when I was racing and instructing, the 996TT is just not as fun a car. Faster to be sure, just not as fun.
I think it's funny that AIR now uses a pic of my old CS to advertise their Turbo S rear wing. I should never have sold it, I believe it's up in Canada now somewhere, not sure.
Cheers

Mikey, I'm local to Portland... I can lend you my cat for a trip to DEQ, my 92 968 passed with flying colors a month ago. You can PM me.

I've heard no complaints about any of these folks. They are all Oregon Region PCA enthusiasts and are linked from Anzeiger. If they were giving crummy service, trust me, they wouldn't last long. Matrix is somewhat oriented to the track folks. There's always Sunset Porsche in Beaverton as well. I've never used them for service but they are tremendous supporters of DIY's with parts. They will order in anything, and it's always well below retail for pricing.

I do all my own work, but have some experience with local shops.
In Portland there are a few options, depending on what you are looking for. I have had/heard mostly positive things to say about Marque Motors. Stuttgart Autotech is very high quality, and appropriately expensive. I've not had a positive experience with Matrix, however, either with an Audi or Porsche.
