Default front/rear calipers

I have been running the oem stock rear calipers on my race car and dust seals are starting to go bad. I could rebuild them or I have the stock oem front calipers that are in better shape. Is it just a swap out to put fronts on the rear? they look the same.

Thanks, Mike

I thought the piston bores were different (smaller) for the rear. You might want to check the PET to see if the calipr part numbers are the same.

So, the pistons are larger but they will bolt right up?

They will bolt right up, but your bias will change.

The change will give me a little more rear braking I would think...The 968 needs a LOT more rear brake anyway!

Not sure how much it actually helps, but changing the proportioning valve to the 5/33 unit has also been a standard "track" mod for 951's and 968's. Bit of a "I need really small hands" exercise, IIRC. Mounts onto the ABS distribution valve body inside front passenger wheel liner / fender.

I did mine when I put the M030's on the front and rebuilt the rears. No complaints.

If you open this valve (or the ABS pump for any reason), it is advisable to "bleed" it by cycling the ABS a number of times to ensure all air gets out. My method was to wait for a rainy day and then go out and pound the snot out of the brakes to induce many ABS cycles.

Of course, please do so in only the safest manner... away from any traffic, people, critters, etc.

The opening for the rotors is bigger in the front calipers. You could pop your pistons out if you let them wear low. Not recommended to swap front calipers for rears.

Good point. I did not think about the rotor thickness differential.

On my race car, I run M030 on the front and stock front on the rear. No proportioning valve needed.
