Default 968 Trans rebuild options - pinion bearing problem

Hi,

I'm lucky enough to have an extremely competent independent mechanic with some Porsche trans rebuilds to his credit and with all the presses and pullers and such that are likely required. He is guessing 25 hours to pull and repair.

However, I also did some additional research and come up with the following options and somewhere I think I read that prices would be in the $2,500 range.

Questions...
Does $2,5000 seem about right for the parts and labor?

Is there any reason to direct the business to one of these folks as opposed to having my current mechanic do the work?

And if it makes a difference mine has LSD.

I've heard nothing but good things about Cervelli, don't know the other two.

If this is from drop the car, to pick up the car I guess it's about right. The trans in these cars comes out pretty easy. If it were me, I'd put the car up on stands and pull the trans and send it off. Then, when it's done toss it back in. Save some $$$$ by turning a few wrenches yourself.

Chris Cervelli will be a lot cheaper than what you have been quoted. I think in the range of 10 hrs. Even with shipping included, you will save a ton of $$.
I swear by Chris, top notch.

Just emailed Kevin Gross & it came back as undeliverable...... Also can't find a web site for Catellus Engineering. Maybe I'll try the phone # later.
