Well, I already tried a 2002 996, and a 1998 993 last weekend, and was extremely happy with both. Maybe I should try the Boxster S out as well. I've had 944's in the past, so I know what the 968 is like to a degree. Are they much, much more car than the 944?

Also, I do like the idea of the 968 being somewhat rare, as there are a lot of Boxsters and 996's here.

i wouldn't mind having a Boxster S....

then do an LN Engineering IMS install for a few grand as insurance against having an $18 k engine block replacement repair....

http://www.lnengineering.com/ims.html

then add a hard top for 2 grand. http://boxster.wikia.com/wiki/Hard_Tops

or just do the same LN Engineering install for a lovely Cayman/S.

Indeed, if I got a 996 or a Boxster/ Cayman S the LN upgrade is the first thing I would be doing. I know people say its rare that the IMS can crap the bed, I just don't think I could sleep at night. The 968 is just an idea I have as I've always been fond of them.

Well if you like the 968 there is nothing like going over & trying it out,if you never drove one you migth have a pleasant surprise.Don't care what anyboby say 968s are one off the best Porsche ever built (even with it's humble 4 cyl) & easy drive to it's limit & live with on a daily/weekly basis, if maintenance is kept up to date. Tell you what I've drove 996/Boxster S & Cayman S & wasn't very impress by any of them & will stick with my 968 any day.

There is another 968 in Edmonton for $16K with 135,000 kms on it. Its been stored in a garage for 6 years, and had the belts/pulleys, front engine seals and pump done before storing. I assume that due to being stored that long it'll need the belts done again? I'm also not do sure about the color...it's guards red which has never been my favorite. It sucks that these are so hard to find. I should have snagged the 94 I seen last year with 65,000 kms on it black on black.

Spot on. It absolutely needs the belts redone, they've been sitting in the temperature swings and under tension for six years, and the shelf life of a well-stored belt with no tension and in consistent temps is only 8.

have have 968 with over 250K miles doing my own work. no suprises in repairs. did a valve job last year. it was just preventative work. they was no wear on the cyl bores, i have two buddies that work for the nascar shops (gibbs and Everham) they were shocked at the lack wear. I screwed it up going back together and broke the chain on start up. In the last year I have picked up a couple of used engines. one had damage to the block broke the mount for the alt,ac bracket. kept it for spares.
got a good one with 43k going the next weekend.

the boxster m86/m96 motor is Junk. I had a 2004 s 550 that the IMS let go at 17k yeah a $17000.00 repair. i feel that this motor is a ticking time bomb. Loved the car, just not as reiable as the 968.
we sold the Boxster S. and kept the 968.

as a daily driver you can't beat the 968.

Why don't you get a PPI? I just bought a 93 with a 148000 that will be used for the track primarily and the PPI turned up some issues that affected the price. Also gave me a slight idea of what my upfront costs would be. PPI is a wise investment!
