968 Exhaust

For those of you with aftermarket exhausts, do you get any droning from the exhaust on the highway at steady speeds?
I put a Milltek exhaust on my '01 A4 and it drones a bit. Sounds fabulous under acceleration, but it can be a bit tedious at a constant 70mph... And Milltek is one of the quieter options for the Audi...not one of the fartcan setups...
LOL...I was told that the car sounds fabulous going down the front straight at Watkins Glen...glad the folks in the other run groups enjoyed it...inside the car with a helmet on, I couldn't tell.

i suppose mine makes a sound that could be loosely categorized as a very slight drone from about 60~70 mph.....
but, the sound is so cool at 75~120 ++ mph that i enjoy having the stereo off equally as much as having it on.

Hey Raj,
Are you specifically in contact with Fabspeed for their "possible" exhaust system for our 968's? If so, can you give us a down load on what you have discussed with them for design goals? ie: weight, sound level, price goals..... I am very interested in an update
Thanks....
Graham

Graham, I apologize for no updates. Their rep was supposed to chime in and update everyone. They are moving between buildings and this is going to delay the devlopment work by approx 1 month.
I was hoping the updates would come from the vendor and not me. I have no affiliation with them and would prefer remaining neutral.

Hey Guys, i know its been a few months and we really appreciate your patience with us we make this transition. Construction delays have really set us back a few more weeks so we are still waiting for everything to be finished before we are in the new facility. There is not enough room at current place for two more cars and two of our four lifts have already been moved to the new place, so we are working off of two lifts to keep up with installations and current projects. We are busy here with the new 991 and McLaren project so as soon as these cars are finished or the new place is ready, we will be able to get the 968 in so we can start the development. I will keep you all updated as we get nearer to that time and are ready to bring in both cars. We will be looking at a fully mandrel bent 2.50" or larger Exhaust system with a modular design to bypass the cats and mufflers for track use or street use. The system will be designed and tested for any drone issues and power gains. We will do before and after photos, videos, Dyno results and more for proper data and R&D.
Thanks again for understanding and to everyone who is waiting patiently for an exhaust upgrade for their cars and I promise it will be worth the wait once its all done.

Yes there is an update. I wrote Alex the following:
"Hi Alex,
There's still a reasonable level of pent up demand for you guys to develop an exhaust/header solution for the Porsche 968. I realize that it's fairly low priority, and not nearly as exciting as some of the new toys coming out, but I know the effort would be rewarded if you guys stepped up and made it happen. seems like you could develop the headers and then use some or all of the 944 Turbo/951 system? Maybe you could hop over to Rennlist and chime in on the appropriate thread and give an update if possible?
Thanks much
Mike "
And yesterday Alex kindly wrote me back saying:
"Hi Mike,
it's good to hear back from you. Yes we still looking forward to releasing a full exhaust for the 968. We are currently working on the headers for the car now. So I am hoping we will have a complete set of 1-piece mandrel bent sport headers that we designed available sometime in early march. Then we will move down to complete the rest of the exhaust after that. So as soon as I have some concrete data and product photos, I will make sure to post updates and information. We did just release our 944 NA cat bypass downtube recently so that will be posted on the forums and our new website shortly. I will be in touch once the parts for the 968 near completion.
Thank you,
Fabspeed Motorsport"
So there's potentially some light at the end of the tunnel.
Cheers
Mikey

Hi Guys,
We still need a car for dyno testing and R&D. Realistically we would need the car for 2+ weeks. I don't see this happening in March due to our backlog of other projects, but if we can get a car lined up for the spring or summertime, that will help us plan.

I love the deep sound I get out of my B&B exhaust. http://www.bbexhaust.com/
However I have heard from other members on this forum that the best exhaust is the one you have custom made by an exhaust shop.
Keep in mind any state laws before you start messing with your exhaust first though.
