Default Procedure to disconnect the pass air bag w/o ! light on?

Hey guys, I'd like to take my 3 year old son in my 968 and I sure as hell don't want that passenger side Gen 1 air bag blowing his face off. Is there a procedure to remove the pass air bag altogether and how do I keep that giant red ! light from coming on? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Yes ,pull the 6 pines connector apart then install a jumper in between pins #3 & 4(female side of the connector) & lol the "giant red ligth" will stay off.By doing this you will disable both airbags. Now you won't to make sure that jumper is really secure if it does pull out while driving the car will stall. For better access to the connector remove the glove boxe, once your done use tie-wraps & secure all hanging wires. There is an orange plastic sheat that secure the 6 pins connector together & it's a PITA to remove, you migth have to break it out.

Fantastic thats what I needed to know. Has anyone ever physically taken the bag out of the dash?

Yep. It's doable, but the access to the bolts is pretty tight, so it's not a fun job. I had my seat out when I did it, which made it easier; not sure how much harder it would be with the seat in.

Take the easy route leave it there, once deleted it won't blow in your face.Taking it out is a waste of time. And if you ever have to sell the car & the guy buying it want airbags, it will take you about half an hour to reconnect them.

When considering temporarily disconnecting the air bag on our '91 928, I was told by the dealer & my mechanic that that you could not prevent the AB warning light from coming up on the dash, that the Airbag ECU would still activate the light. Both said that Porsche wouldn't want the liability of it being disconnected, then without a warning light someone wouldn't know the air bags were inactive. I wonder if the 928 system is similar to the 968 & simply jumpering the #3 & 4 pins would prevent the light from coming on? It makes sense to me.

I will do the jumper to keep the light off for sure. When it comes down to the risk of having that Gen 1 airbag go off, especially with my 3 year old in the front seat, its just not worth the risk. I plan on pulling the airbag entirely out of the dash and might look into putting a non-airbag dash back in.

My " ! " light is on because the airbag warning light burned out on the dash.
Will that jumper bypass that light or is that light in a series after the airbag control unit?
