Default Problem with the alternator?!?!?

My 968 died on me right when I got off the freeway. Even with the jumper it wouldn't start, I put a brand new battery last month. So i just replaced a new battery but if i take the positive or negative off, the car wouldn't stay running. So is there a problem with the alternator, that it might be bad??

Removing your positive cable is the worst way to check if you regulator/alternator is working. The voltage spike could fry your ecu.
Take a voltmeter and see what are the readings when the car is running. Should show over 13.5 volts.

Removing either battery cable while the engine is running can almost instantly destroy the diodes in the alternator.

Go to autohausaz.com
They have excellent prices on Bosch rebuilt alternators.
