Dead 968's
I made a visit to Parts Heaven this afternoon which is a common ritual for owners of aged Porsches in the bay area. Unfortunately I was surprised by how many 968's were there today which have all apparently suffered life-ending front end collisions. This is not making it easy for me to find the driver's side fog light and bat wing with hardware that I've been looking for. Do 968 drivers talk on their cell phones too much and run into people or what?? Anyway, I documented the 968's that were there including a very nice purple cab.

I think Jeff is.
It's a real shame.
What was the cab/coupe count? I try not to get as worked up about cabs, I think of them as parts donors in waiting (especially manual cabs, maybe someday we'll be able to convert every surviving coupe to manual), but seeing a dead coupe just hurts my heart.
If you don't find a driver's fog any time in the next few months, I'm planning on doing my lighting project soon so I might have an extra set you could convince me to part with. Unless I decide to keep it "just in case", hard to say. I'm like that with extra parts...

****! Yeah there was 1 very nice red coupe with 18" turbo twists on it, a metallic purple cab [not sure what the color is called], 2 black cabs and a red cab I think. There must be 10-12 968's per year that I see being processed at Parts Heaven.

I wonder if Jeff can give us some numbers of confirmed dead 968s? I saw 23.

that's truly insane. how many frigging engines are floating about ? all these 944 guys obsessing over engines and you got all these bulletproof 3.0s out there. btw, i need a front bumper cover in white so i can begin modding my damage cover.... if anyone discovers one, i'd greatly appreciate a pm.

never thought i'd be saying this about our cars just a few years after getting in one but,
i'm wondering if the many good engines in these wrecks will ever get pulled. i doubt it.

Trev,
I can't make out VIN #4.
The last car is the most interesting. The purple cab is actually F9 Amethyst, 1 of 21 produced but 1 of 1 paired with a black and cashmere interior with a magenta top. BTW, are the seats still with it? They are full leather and dual 8-way power.

Sorry Jeff, I don't know the last 2 digits of the 8404xx. All I know is it's a red/black cab.
You can see some of them here: http://partsheaven.com/wrecks.php

I do. Jerry from the register recently visited OK Porsche and sent me VINs/photos for 25 parted 968s. There were a couple of interesting ones. A 1 of 1 968 cab in Aventurine green with a black/marble interior and a marble top and a fully loaded Black M030 coupe. The car didn't look that bad in the photos.
