Yes, but you'll have to modify the hood for clearance <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

What is wrong with a Turbo 968? It'll make about as much power, and weigh a whole lot less

But you wouldn't get to see that huge chrome scoop sticking out of the hood.

Well, you could feed the turbo through it <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

You can get 600 hp out of a 968 T if you O ring the block... Most SBF connecting rods break at 600 hp...

Cbass:

Actually, there are many choices of off the shelf performance conrods that can handle over 900 to 1000 horse... and to top it off they are not that expensive. If you are talking OEM rods, yeah that is a whole different story.

Not that I am encouraging anybody, I just wanted to be fair to the Ford guys... okay I'll fess up, I used to own a Mustang (65) and I have an XR4ti, hee hee.

Abdul

Well of course, Ford does build 3000+ hp drag motors. I'm just saying the average rod you get from Summit or a mail order company is going to break at around 600 hp. I have a big Ford smallblock sitting in my garage right now.

Absolutely correct Cbass, those performance steel rods are a great price/perfomance compromise, but definitely do have a less than ideal limit.

I was thinking more along the lines of chromo rods and EN40/EN35 (Kryptonite) rods, some are works of art in my opinion. If I were going through all the effort to build up an engine I would just spend a little bit more $ and go for the chromo (4340).

At that level I would also go for turbocharging and EFI, which is where my 400 windsor might be going now... I am working on a DIS and EFI setup, we're just working out the electronics right now.

I am going to need to find rods that will take 800 hp... I'm going for Trick Flow heads, and making my own intake and exhaust. I'ts going into a RX-7 or something for drag racing, to promote my business.

That sounds pretty cool Cbass. It's been a long time since I have heard of anybody working on a 400 Windsor. The 351/400 W's are one of the most bullet proof engines ever. I love those 3" main journals, except for the friction of course.

Thats what 6.5 liters of displacement is for. Who needs a big block ?

I am working on a 968 Turbo for my daily driver/SCCA A class car. My goal is to thump a few Saleen Mustangs, Vipers, 911 Turbos... I'll be making the same power, but weigh about 500 lbs less, with the easy handling of a 968. It should be fun.
