968 Cam Chain Tensioner
Hi!
I have purchased a '92 968 here in Sweden, with 123,000 km / 76,000 miles. I am very familiar with the 944 16v motors, having owned 3 such cars. Can anyone tell me if the 968 has the same potential for disasterous chain tensioner failures? If so, what are the recommended inspection/change intervals for the tensioner? Are the tensioner plastic pads available as a spare part from Porsche, as is the case with the 944S/S2 tensioner?
Thanks

Derek,
I bought my '95 with almost 90K this past December. Once I took ownership I told my mechanic to change all belts and hoses as part of getting it ready for the upcoming track season.
He found that the tensioner chains were badly stretched and DEFINATELY needed changing. So, I would consider it cheap insurance for your car, as well.
