Well vaseline migth not be made for it but does a darn good job, been using it for 27 years on my spark plugs ,not only on my Porsches but also 2 daily drivers,so if there is a negative side to using it, would had come out by now that for sure, never once did I had any proplems removing spark plug after using it,and didn't see vaseline doing any damage. To each is own way of doing things I guess.

kb, saw your car at Cars and Coffee last Saturday. Very nice.

My son and I spoke w/ you for a few minutes just after you backed in. (Not sure if I mentioned I drive a Cayman S???)

Anyhow, we're looking for an '88 S or newer 951... or S2... in guards red and 5 speed. (There are several around, but guys are proud of them)

Good luck w/ the car.

Lots of schools of thought on spark plug thread lube. According to the factory workshop manual, the only thing that is OK to put on spark plug threads is Molykote HTP White paste. Personaly the best results come with using nothing at all. There needs to be perfect electrical conduction between the head and the plug, metal on metal is good.

Only remove spark plugs when the engine is COLD.

My understanding was that metallic anti-seize conducts electricity, and that filling the tiny gap between the spark plug threads and the cylinder head threads aids conduction and prevents corrosion (which increases resistance).
