Default Proper Idle for a 968?

My 944S3 idles around 1200rpm. It seems a bit high... what is the proper idle speed and how does one adjust it on a MAF car?

Mine idles at 1000rpm cold, then drops down to a rather unsteady 800-850 as it warms up.

Your idle air control valve might be stuck.

I've been told DMEs sometimes need "retraining" or something like that. I forget what it's actually called, but it needs a Hammer or Durametric, or something similar. Did your DME come from the same car as your engine? And did you rebuild the engine?

My idle is around 850rpm iirc, I haven't driven it in months.

1000-1100rpm when cold and 800-850rpm when warm.

I think you are refering to reflashing, but that usually involves a computer download, not a hammer

I meant the Bosch "Hammer", which is the special computer interface device they made for communicating with the Motronic DME.

But not nearly as fun as this kind of Bosch hammer [drill].

Okay... here's the deal..
1991 944S2 with a 944S2 manifold and a 968 head, DME, harness, MAF, TPS and idle stabilizer. Idle is steady, no difference from cold to warm... just stays at around 1200rpm. Vacuum lines are new and routed correctly.

You can get a vacuum pump tool for like $20 at harbor freight, if you want. Where is Fallbrook, near the bay area? I have tools you can use if you're nearby.

Fallbrook is in North San Diego County. So, not as close to you as I used to be. ;/
