Your local auto parts store should have a vacuum gauge that you can get for cheap. Just curious though as to why you went with a S2 manifold over the 968 manifold? You are losing alot of midrange torque in running the S2 manifold over the 968 one, because of the way the 968 manifold is tuned to the pulses of the cams plus the size of the manifold ports is 2mm smaller. Reading post #10 is it an S2 block or a 968?

It's a S2 block. Is the only difference between the two the mounting points for the different belt tensioners?

I used the S2 manifold because I already had it... no money left for the 968 manifold... also, cosmetically, I hate the flimsy wheel in the throttle linkage.

Piston squirters on the 968 bolck are the bigger benifit of the 968 block. Understandable about the cash flow for a 968 maniflold, but the wheel is actually fairly robust for what it is, and functions quite well. As soon as you get an idea of the vacuum at idle it will tell you what to look for to get the idle down to where it should be. It could be a leak at the manifold gasket, or something with the idle circuit. But, the vacuum at idle will tell alot as to what is going on.

Default Okay... I think I know what the culprit is

I finally got around to dealing with the idle on my 944S3... it would appear to be the idle stabilizer as was suggested.

When I unplug it from the wire harness and start the car, the idle is around 800rpm and steady; when I plug it in again, it climbs to 1200+rpm. Then, when I disconnect it again, it stalls. I restart it with it unplugged and it idles at 800rpm again.

So, until I source another idle stabilizer, I'll run the car with the stabilizer unplugged.
