Default Which Porsche would you replace your 968 with?

Clearly not my idea, but saw this question posted in the 993 forum and thought it would be interesting to read the responses here too.

Until about 1 month ago, I thought for sure that I would be buying a 1995 993 6 speed coupe at some point to replace the 968, but I drove a 1996 993 6 speed coupe recently and it didn't live up to my expectations. Maybe I've been thinking about 993's for too long and imagined them as the perfect Porsche - and they certainly are in terms of looks, at least to me - but the engine was way too quiet [stock exhaust], suspension too soft [also stock], brake and clutch too stiff, and power delivery, although very quick, was really boring! Hoping that non-Varioram power delivery of MY95 is more peaky and fun but who knows...

So anyway, I think it would take something like a 993 Turbo or 996 GT3 at this point for me to not consider another 968! They're that much fun!!

Not for nuffin', but if you look at the styling - esp. the front of the 959 - and (case in point) the side-air-grills -- and then look at the front of your 993 -- and then look just in front of your front wheels -- you'll see the very same air-grills. :-O

I can't think of anything besides a 993TT.

Unless maybe something wild and unreasonable like a 997.2 GT3 RS...you know, if I won the lottery.
EDIT: Or, yeah, a 959

I'm not sure I can answer this question since I haven't ever driven a Porsche I like more than a 968. I've driven a '95 993 cab tip, a '90 964 5-speed coupe, a '90 964 5-speed targa, a boxster 2.5, a 914, a 901, a few various 928s, and of course lots of 944s.

Of all the Porsches I actually have driven, the 968 is my favorite, as it comes packaged. The 964 coupe was close though. Does an Audi RS2 count? That's one I know I would rather have. I'd like to test drive a 996.

i would consider a few Porsches as a replacement for the 968. 964 RS America, 964 Carrrera 4, 1995 993 Carrera....must be a narrow body '95 if i go with a 993. I would also consider project cars like a 924 S with a 968 drivetrain.

RS America is a good one which I've also considered but never driven, though I have driven a 964 C4 and remember loving it.

1972 911E, fully restored to oem standards, just embodies everything classic about a Porsche for me.

Was expecting a lot more 968 turbo S from you guys, which might contend with my first pick!

Wouldn't turn down a Ruf Ctr Yellowbird from the late 80's either!

I'm thinking GT3 / Boxster Spyder / C4S Cabrio (in that order)...

Nah, no way I'd replace a VVT 16v with an old-school 8v

Pretty sure I'll get more power out of mine anyway, eventually.

Good point, why didn't I think of that?

Best post so far goes to 968Geb - wow! Yes, yes, and yes please!

Also a huge fan of the Yellowbird but that's overkill. It's kinda like saying that the only car you'd take over a 968 is a 911 GT1 '98 road car!

You did not say how much you have to spend $$$
I went shopping with a target of $25000. Purchased a 2000 C4 996 for that amount and am very happy with this "upgrade" from the 968. Now we are keeping the 968 and having both is great. I will admit the selling point for me on the C4 was the TechArt equipment that lowered the car and improved the exhaust tone... and the full leather interior that dressed up the very modern design inside. After the 968 interior I would find it hard to go back to the 964 or 993 old interior ergonomics.

Under $20-25? Give me a pristine '89 951. I may get flamed for this, but would not also mind a 97-99 boxster to spec race with.

The 964 RS America, 964 Carrrera 4, & 1995 993 Carrera are realistic replacements. If money were no object.....i'd gone for a 964 Turbo flachbau...my fav. widow maker ever.

Mint Green 964 in that pic as well. :-)

I don't think I'll ever replace my actual 968 unless I get into an accident & total it ,but if I had to my choice will be this one or that one.
