Todd951968......I actually think as 968 owners we already take this risk. When the 968's Heater Control Valve fails (HCV) it gives, or gave me, this exact joyful experience in my 968..... (except I didn't soil the seat!!!!)....

"No warning Coolant dumps on rear tires - total loss of control - car spins and you soil the seats."

Yeah, that's exactly what I was trying to say. 968's are terrible cars, must be why I've had so many of them! I think a 996 is better than 968 for DD and track car because if it gets wrecked or blows up then there are a million more out there to replace it with. Not so with 968 and I'd feel really bad if something happened to such a rare car.

I guess I just figure that great cars can only be great when they're rolling. Put them in a garage and look at them, they might as well be pictures on the wall. And the only way to guarantee (mostly) that it won't get wrecked or blow up is to let it sit in the garage, useless. So I take it out and drive it, and just hope to get as many miles out of it as humanly possible. For all I know, the 968 might outlive me, and then I'll be mightily pissed that I wasted some of my driving miles on other cars.

I used to have a neighbor with a Laguna Seca Blau E46 M3 with Dinan package. He drove it twice a month, and his DD was a lame toyota corolla. I get the whole idea of having a beater, but my beater is something I interesting and exciting.

Especially if you're into 968s, you can pick up a 944 for cheap and it's a very similar car to a 968. I bet if this question were asked on the 944 NA forum, a lot of people would say "968".

I wonder what the ratio would be of "911" to "968" there.

I have traded my 968 for an 996 very recently. No regrets whatsoever.

better to trade the engine rather than the car! 944 owners get attached to their cars. when their engines go bad, the 968 engine becomes the perfect donor... with the 968 roller—you have a perfect hot rod platform.

Interesting. None whatsoever? How long did you have the 968? Do you miss the trunk space? Any 968 quirks you miss or any 996 quirks you don't like?

I'm seriously considering a 996 but like I said before I'm not ready to move on yet.
