jblaw there should be a 'ceiling panel' between the headline and the hatch. This panel is the width of the roof is easily removed by unscrewing a few retainer screws that are accessible under plastic caps.Once removed the inside of this back section of the roof is revealed, including the nut that holds the base of the antenna in place. If I remember correctly the threaded tube that serves as the 'bolt' protrudes through the center of the nut and is too thick/wide for a normal socket to do the job. You need a socket with a very wide aperture at the back of the socket that can accommodate the threaded tube or bolt. Home Depot sells Shower Valve Socket Set (HDX) that contains 10 sizes (5 sockets with 2 sides each) that fits from 21/32 through to 1 7/16". I believe one of these fits and reaches that nut that holds the base of the antenna i place. Good luck.

Thanks, Paul! FYI, I think I read somewhere that the Saab Viggen gasket will fit!

The factory toolkit contains the tool that you need - the lug wrench works perfectly for this.

Done, thanks guys! I cut the wires on the old one and used a deep 17mm socket to get it off. So much better looking.
