Default Looking for a good mechanic near RTP.

For those of you who don't know. I just purchased a '94 968. I'd link the thread about my car, but I'm not very forum savvy.

To get to the point, I'm looking for a good shop/mechanic in the area. I live in east Durham, near RTP. I take my other car to the Tire King on Miami, and I will probably go to them for tires, but I really want a Porsche guy doing anything more intense.

Thanks for the advice.

Are you a PCA member?
Your local PCA region should have a list of mechanics on their DE/Racing technical inspection station list.
Almost always a good place to start for experienced Porsche mechanics/shops.

I've got the painted center caps. The previous owner had the rims refinished, and the wheel guys didn't tell him that they did the wheels in a lighter shade than original. So, the painted center caps don't match. I may have the painted caps refinished, so that I can put them on though. I like the monochrome caps, but the painted ones look better.

I had the dog mechanic replace that burnt out bulb. Well maybe "repair" is a better word. It is amazing what $80 eye drops can do.

I just bought your car (or it's twin). '94, same color, and just down the road in W-S. I have 16' wheels (silver centers) , but yours seem larger...are they 17"?

Yeah, I've got the 17" wheels.

I just drove home to Macon, GA to see my parents for the 4th. On the return trip (all hwy), I turned 26.5 mpg. I turned ~23mpg on every prior fill-up, so when I hit 425mi I thought I should fill up. I should've kept on truckin, cause I only put 16 gallons in. What really blows my mind is that I was going 75-80 mph practically the whole way.

968s can be surprising fuel efficient, if you drive like a grandpa. My car will do 29-ish miles per gallon if I cruise steadily in 6th gear in the 60-mph range.

Chubs:
Try Brad at The Digital Chassis 2305 Orangewood Dr. In North Durham (919)384-7070. Works on high end and exotics. Pleased with everything that I've had him do for me.
